Adelma Lillian Mellecke was given life by her Creator and was born February 14, 1933 near Kinbrae, (Graham Lakes Township, Nobles County), MN, the child of Herbert and Lillian Heintz. She was reborn as a child of God in the waters of Holy Baptism on March 26, 1933. She confessed that baptismal faith in the Rite of Confirmation on March 30, 1947 and received the gift of the Lord’s life-giving body and blood. On August 12, 1956 Adelma was united in holy marriage to Mayo Mellecke. They were blessed with five sons and two daughters. In her vocation as wife, mother, and homemaker, God blessed Adelma as she served Him at home, church, and community in Brandon, Manitoba; Milk River, Alberta; Port Coquitlam, British Columbia; St. Walburg, Saskatchewan; Dashwood, Ontario; Stratford, Ontario; and Kitchener, Ontario. God blessed Adelma with a holy death on March 26, 2017 in Kitchener, Ontario and took her home to rest in the arms of Jesus until the resurrection of the dead.
Adelma was predeceased her parents; by her son, Peter; brothers, Roger, Don, Norman; and sister-in-law, Janis; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her husband, Mayo; sons and daughters, David (Donna), Daniel (Elizabeth), Jonathan (Pauline), Judith, Rachel (Tim) Kuhl, Paul (Jenn); and grandchildren, Melissa (Derek) Millar, Charleen (John) Rapp, Adam, Allison, Elise, James, Christopher, Christina, Sara, Peter, Sophie, Kaitlyn; and great-grandchildren, Jasmine, John J, and Alexander; brothers and sisters, Alvin (Arlene) Heintz, Dorothy (Mark) Koschmann, Luther (Lois) Heintz, Marilyn (Roger) Zellman, Esther (Dave) Schlicker, Lorraine (Jon) Ittel; sisters-in-law, Cindy Heintz and Jan Heintz; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The memorial service for Adelma will be held at Historic St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 137 Queen St. S., Kitchener, ON at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 8, 2017. Visitation begins one hour prior to the service with lunch to follow the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lutherans for Life – Canada, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League–Canada (LWMLC), or Lutheran Bible Translators of Canada.
