It’s hard to find the right words to describe our Dad/Grandpa, so instead of trying we just want to say thank you. Thank you for always saving us the comics from the paper, for letting us raid your vending machine stash, for letting us sit with you in your lazy boy after we long grew out of it, for teaching us to golf, for always calling your computer a “tin can” to avoid swearing in front of us. Thank you for teaching us that a family is what makes a home and that hard work will get you where you want to go no matter where that is.
You were a family first kind of person, going out of your way to help your Mom when she needed something, no matter that she didn’t live close. You were there for all of us, whether it be to renovate a kitchen, build a garage, or just to walk with and enjoy the peace and quiet.
Because of you we have memories of can crushers, TVs turned up way too loud, tomato soup, milk moustaches, brisk tea, vanilla ice cream, Blue Jays games, golf, and ice cream sandwiches. This list could go on forever, but to sum it up - without you our childhoods and adulthood would have had a little less magic in them.
Bert is survived by his wife Beverly, adult children Valerie (spouse Dave), RoseMarie, Mike (spouse Jill), Coreen, Kevin (spouse Melita); grandchildren Dale, Jason (spouse Lise), Barry, Randelle (spouse Matt), Morgan (spouse Jeff), Ryan (spouse Allie), Kimberly (spouse Matt), Shaun; and 13 great grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held in the fall of 2022 in Owen Sound. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society as expressions of sympathy.
