He was married to Myrna Gerber (nee Honsaker) for 63 years.  Born on the family farm near Shakespeare to Aaron and Mary Ann (Ruby) Gerber, he lived there for a good portion of his life. Together, Walter and Myrna raised three children Kerry (Aldena), Sherry, and Jeffrey (Julie).   He was grandfather to five grandchildren, Lauren (Brent Weyers), Nicole, Brookelynn, Katherine and Jackson.

Walter was a farmer and a truck driver.  He owned Gerber Transport with his brother Delford, and he later drove truck for Koch Transport for 25 years, until his retirement in 1996.  He loved his family and his Lord. He enjoyed his retirement years with enthusiasm, staying at the trailer, traveling extensively with Myrna, volunteering, meeting weekly with the Bethel Men’s Prayer Group, visiting with friends and actively engaging with those around him on the issues of the day.

Passed away peacefully after a courageous battle of cancer at his residence and surrounded by the love of his family on Wednesday February 23, 2022 at the age of 77 years.

Beloved husband and best friend of Debbie (nee McKenna) married for over 47 years. Cherished and loved father of Craig (Melissa), Jen (Geoff), Kimmy, Jamie, Kyle, and Joel. Proud grandfather/papa of Taylor, Kirstyn, Maddie, Grace, and Ruth. Dear brother of Donald (Ann) and brother-in-law of Bill Johnson, Sandi (Abe), Pat, and Tracy (Bill). Predeceased by his parents William and Catherine, his in-laws Doug and Ruth, his sisters Kaye, Aileen, and Margaret, his brother-in-laws Jim, Dominic and Brian, and his nephew Cory. Bill will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.

Born in Brantford, Ontario, Bill loved to have a cigar and enjoy laughs on the golf course with his boys. He enjoyed many years of volunteering with the Ontario Golf Association and for a year had his dream job of being president of the association. During his retirement years, Bill enjoyed his time working at the Elmira golf course. When not golfing, he enjoyed spending time travelling with his family. His family will cherish many memories of visiting Walt Disney World, shopping trips in Erie, Pennsylvania, and visiting nearby sites such as Niagara Falls and Blue Mountain (no matter how much he pretended to be annoyed by the shopping and Disney overload).

Cremation will take place. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grand River Hospital Foundation as expressions of sympathy.

Debbie and family would like to extend a special thank you to Nurse Allison from Care Partners.

As Bill would say "hit it straight and stay out of the rough"

Mrs. Ruth Joan Sherwood (nee Blatherwick) died at St. Mary’s Hospital, Kitchener, on Feb. 10, 2022, at the age of 92 years.

Ruth grew up in Belleville, graduated from St. Michael’s School of Nursing in Toronto, married, and settled in St. Catharines.

Predeceased by her husband Harvey, sister Marcia, brother Bruce, she leaves her children, Marcia, Judy, Bill, Jamie, and John; 13 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren; as well as in laws Richard Lovering, Marlene Blatherwick, Jack and Gladys Stewart, and Mary Sherwood.

Ruth Sherwood was known for her fierce intellect, empathy, and wit.

In school, Ruth could sleep through lectures and still get 100%. Although she didn’t practice nursing long, it was useful when helping others, including relatives at the end of life. She was a good mentor. She believed she was right, and usually was. She would clip out items from the Globe or Guardian believing they would interest us, and they usually did.

Ruth believed “the best thing you can give someone is your time” and she opened her home, heart, and mind to the people that she loved. She celebrated our rites of passage, attended our successes and failures, and helped us when we needed it.

Often described by strangers as “the lady that looks like the queen”, Ruth had a presence, confidence, style, and grace to match. She was unconventional: ate pie for breakfast and hit the road in a snowstorm. Ruth loved to laugh, and make other people laugh. She was known for her smart remarks right up to the end.

The family sends a special thank you to the staff of The Village of Winston Park, Kitchener, for their care and kindness.

At the request of Mrs. Sherwood, there will be no visitation or service. Donations in Ruth’s memory can be made to a charity of your choice. Messages and condolences may be left for the family at www.tricitycremations.com.  Please visit Ruth's obituary notice on Facebook.

John Nelson Jolly, 81, passed away peacefully in the morning of February 7, 2022, at Hilltop Manor in Cambridge.

He is missed and loved so very much by his wife of 29 years, Brenda (Evans) Jolly; his stepchildren, Kelly Fonseka (Marcel) and Jeffrey Gilks.  Proud Papa to Lauryn, Jenna, Paige and Cole.  Brother to Shirley (Al) and Birdie who he looked up to his whole life.  His niece Lynn (Jay) who he thought of as his baby sister.  All of his family (nieces and nephews) and friends who he loved and cared for.

John was born and raised in St. Catharines Ontario the youngest of 5 and the son of Nelson and Edna Jolly.  He is predeceased by his sisters Barbara and Jane.  He was a naval officer and owner of his own contracting business for many years.

He was a proud man who loved to play cards, scrabble, bowl and spend time with his family. We will miss his jokes and smiles.

He often mentioned how much he missed his Mom and although it’s a sad time for our family we take comfort in the thought that he is with her now.

The impact he has made in our lives will not be forgotten. There will be tears but more importantly there will be smiles and laughs for all the memories we have had together.

A celebration of John’s life will be held in the summer and more information will be provided closer to the date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
