Donald Stanley Good

With heavy hearts our family announces the passing of Donald Stanley Good on May 27th, 2022, at the age of 81.

For so many years he seemed to be in a never-ending battle with his body but his stubborn nature and will to survive always won out with the support of his loving wife Renee Bayne Good with whom he spent more than half his life (47 years).  We believed he was invincible.

Don had a few careers in his lifetime, but none were more fulfilling than when he was on the road driving transport.  He had a great appreciation for the power of the 1958 Oldsmobile Super 88 from his youth, later the comfort of a plush Lincoln and when he got older, the practicality of a minivan.  Just as his parents always sang to him and his sisters on long drives, so to would his mellow Johnny Cash style voice croon the sad story-based lyrics to tearful passengers.  Don was determined to have his driver's license until his last day, and he did.

When not on the road, it was family time.  If anyone needed a favour of him, they just had to ask.  Movies, game nights, dinners out, Christmas potlucks and meeting up for a Timmies. Laughter abounded through those times together.  Later as he tired, if he needed to laugh, reminiscing about his grandchildren and watching videos of his great grandchildren were a favourite pastime.

Predeceased by his parents; Stanley and Eva (Smith) Good, his older sister Margaret Iutzi and brother-in-law Stan (Steamie) Iutzi.  He leaves behind a lifetime of memories for his younger sister Sandra Good and his cousin/best friend Bill Smith (Marg).

Loving father to Laura (Doug) Harding, Bradley Good, Barbara Beker and stepchildren: Kimberly (Perry) Flewelling and Keith Longman.  Proud “Papa” of Danielle (Jay), Jessica (Derek), Michael, Matthew, Jacob, Aaron, Raechel, Clayton and Molly.  Blessed to have held 4 great grandchildren in his arms.

Ever loved and dearly missed.

At Don's request, there will be no funeral but rather a private family gathering at a later date. Donations can be made 'In Memory of Don Good' to www.autismdogservices.ca or to the Mennonite Central Committee (MCCCanada.ca).

Messages and condolences may be left for the family at www.tricitycremations.com or 519.772.1237. Please  visit Donald's obituary notice on Facebook.

David Joseph Gilhula

It is with heavy hearts that the family of David Joseph Gilhula announce his passing on Wednesday May 11, 2022 at the age of 72.

David is reunited with his mother Margaret Gilhula (nee Davis) (2012), father Merrill Gilhula (1967), brother John “Cam” Gilhula (2019) and his first best friend, his uncle Frank Gilhuly (1960).

Missing him deeply are his wife Barbara Gilhula, sisters Margaret “Pat” Bossolini (Frank, 2011), Marianne Lucio (Dan), sister in law Shirley Gilhula (nee Phillips) (Cam, 2019) daughters Jennifer (Brad Biggs), Rebecca (Jeremy Richards), Lauren (Eric Authier), Daina Lachine Brenton (Ira Brenton), son Chris Lachine, grandchildren Aston Sweet, and Blakely Brenton, 5 nephews,  along with many other close family and friends.

David was raised on a farm, a proud and wonderful upbringing with which he carried his work ethic and love of gardening through the rest of his life. One of his best last days was spent planting onions and spinach in his garden. He also held on to share and give one last gift, a gift he said is a father’s greatest honour- to give away his daughter at her wedding which took place two days before he passed.

If we can hold a piece of David’s legacy through our journey, may it be to show deep gratitude and loyalty to those who never leave our side. In extension to his family, David had an incredible circle of lifelong friends who celebrated him in the best of times and supported him through the worst of times. He understood that during the tough days, he could surrender to his family, both biological and chosen, who would carry him in love and strength until he could continue himself. David never took this for granted and he left knowing that he was loved by his favourite people. What a beautiful way to finish a life’s journey.

Many words of thank you and gratitude are sent also to David’s medical team which through the years has become extensive. He noted on many occasions how grateful he was for wonderful care givers.

Cremation has taken place. David’s life will be celebrated on Sunday July 17, 2022 with a graveside interment at St. Patrick’s Church 5773 10 Line, Merlin, ON at 11am followed by lunch (perch or chicken) and sharing of our best David stories at the Merlin Legion 2 Stanley St, Merlin, ON. Please RSVP at   rsvp.gilhula@gmail.com.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to help find a cure for Multiple Myeloma through Myeloma Canada would be graciously appreciated.
