April 14, 1934 - August 23, 2021

Passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s Hospital, Kitchener.

Irma will be greatly missed by her husband Manfred, and children Regina and Wilfred. Oma to grandchildren Jason, Eric, Jeffrey, Alex, and Melissa. Great grandmother (More Oma) to Joshua, David, Samantha, Nathan, Hunter, Lily (deceased), and Stella.

Irma liked simple things in life. Scarcities during World War II in Germany left a lifelong impact on her, and accordingly she would let nothing go to waste. She enjoyed the odd rum and Coke, loved red carnations, ice cream, boat rides, songs by German crooner Freddy Quinn, her leather recliner, and was a devoted fan of Days of Our Lives. She was a member of the German-Canadian Club choir, and enjoyed a game of Rummykuub, Canasta, or Sorry. It didn’t matter who won.  She loved dandelions in the spring for the sunny colour they brought to the landscape. Although she never got her driver’s license, one time, out of necessity, she had to drive the family car back home. When she stopped at the sole traffic light in Milton way back when, she noticed a police car behind her. She panicked and jumped out of the still running car, ran to the nearby public washroom figuring that the policeman could not go after her if she was in the ladies room! In one phase Irma discovered Bingo at the town’s legion hall, and that ultimately led to catching the bus weekly to Monster Bingo in Mississauga, a passion that lasted for a few years. As owners of Bala Bay Marine, she managed the dockside store for 9 years in Muskoka. Greeting cards were lovingly kept on display and enjoyed for many months.  Manfred and Irma resided in Canada for 67 years, calling Milton, Mississauga, Bala and Kitchener home while taking many trips to their winter home in Fort Myers, Florida and numerous travels to see to friends and family in Germany.

The family thanks the staff of St. Mary’s Hospital, Kitchener, for the kind and compassionate care during Irma’s last days. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates the kind thoughts and memories of friends and any donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada they may wish to make. Cremation follows.

Even in the darkness of her sickness, Liliane’s humour was sharp! Everybody who knew Liliane will have fond memories of her  “Joie de Vivre”

The care of Liliane at home was exceptional done by the nurse Abby, PSW Tina and the ones we met but forgot their names.

We are very thankful for the excellent care of Liliane at the Innisfree House in Kitchener. The word “Caring” is too small to let the world know of how  the nurses are exceptional  in their work for the dying person and their loved ones. The organization of this hospice is very professional… from the administration, social worker (Heather), the cook (for fresh baked chocolate cookies), the volunteers to the person washing the floor, we have this humble word…….MERCI!

Last but not forgotten, Kristina for having help Liliane by keeping her apartment clean and cooking for her. Thank you from all Liliane’s family…you were the first person to help her.
