Passed away peacefully at Grand River Hospital on Thursday August 25th, 2022 at the age of 80 years.

Born in Chapleau, Ontario, Gene was raised in Biscotasing and Marathon, where he excelled in most sports. An excellent curler (as skip he once scored an 8-point ender) and fastball pitcher, he was invited to a high-level baseball tryout in Texas that unfortunately ended when he broke his ankle. In 1985, he met Carolyn, when they married in 1993, Gene became a ‘new’ father of two daughters. He retired at 58 after spending nearly two decades at Union Gas. In the interim he split his time between Florida and Waterloo. One of our bright lights will no longer walk amongst us but is instead beside us all.

It is with the most absolute heartbreak that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved Ty at the young age of 27 due to a head injury. He was a son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin, uncle, best friend, best bud, teammate and a hero to his family and strangers.

Ty was the definition of beautiful chaos. He was the kindest soul with a true heart that craved laughter and happiness, if there was none, he was going to create it. It this past week we have discovered how many lives he has touched and the beacon he was to many during their darkest times. He drew people to him like a magnet and could walk into a room full of strangers and leave with 50 new friends. He lived freely and by the beat of his own drum. Sometimes he left us all confused trying to understand this guy….but the truth is, he was the one that saw people and the world clearly and we were the ones that didn’t understand. He looked inside people and always located their good and from then on, that’s all he saw in you. He lived with zero judgement of another, hated no one, never held onto anger, saw the world through rose-coloured glasses and literally did not possess the ability to hold a grudge.

Our family is speechless, overwhelmed and so very thankful for the outpouring of love, stories, messages, and thoughtful gestures. We are truly blessed and cannot express the magnitude of how you have all aided our family in this healing process.

Even in death Ty continues in his quest and has brought an already extremely close family even closer. As his big sister stated “he has taught us to be a little kinder, love a little bit harder, stress a little less, hug so that someone really feels it, forgive freely and see the beauty in what we take for granted”.

Love you Uncle Ty, I am going to miss you. Can’t wait to see you one day in Heaven. Thank you for dancing with me.

Adeline

Robert Grant Conaway, aged 76, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2022 in Waterloo, Ontario after a long-term illness in addition to recent complications due to COVID.  Roberts loving family was thankful to be with him to say goodbye in the days leading to his passing.

Robert was born on May 13th, 1946 in Preston, Ontario to the late Ruth Hillborn and Tom Conaway.    Beloved husband of 53 years to Sharon (Kieswetter) Conaway.  Loving father to Lisa (Richard) Hepditch and Chad (Courtney) Conaway.  Dearly missed by his grandchildren Samuel, Madeleine, and Nicholas Hepditch, and Jacob, Jackson and William Conaway.  Robert is lovingly remembered by his big brother Tom (Patricia) Conaway and his many nieces and nephews.

Robert had an adventurous spirit and always thought outside of the box.  His career with Bell Canada took him and his family to all corners of the world where he assisted with establishing the first telephone system in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for almost a decade. Everything Robert did in life he did for his family- they drank tea in the deserts of Saudi Arabia, walked through the pyramids in Egypt, went on safari in Africa and looked over the City of Paris from the Eiffel tower.  The upbringing he provided for his children gave them a true appreciation for different cultures, traditions and ways of life.

Robert was a self-made entrepreneur and was always innovating business ideas and opportunities.   After returning from his work overseas and retiring from Bell Canada, Robert and Sharon converted an old home on the main street of St. Jacobs into a beloved pub and specialty store (Shadetree).  Robert loved running the Shadetree, serving guests who became regulars and often good friends.  If you visited the Shadetree you surely remember being greeted by Robert’s welcoming smile.

Robert’s second love was carpentry and all custom projects made of wood. Having sub-contracted the family home that included the design and creation of an authentic English pub, true to his heritage, for family and friends to enjoy- no project was too big for him to take on. Robert utilized his talents and personal touch to renovate a small cottage in Howick, Ontario into a peaceful and beautiful space for his family to gather.  Today, the cottage is Robert and Sharon’s legacy where family and friends can gather to fondly reflect upon many memories and create new ones for generations to come.

Robert will be dearly missed by those who knew him.  He will continue to guide us and inspire us through the many fond memories we have of him. Robert’s children and their families wish to acknowledge Sharon’s tireless example of compassion and commitment, “through sickness and in health”, she so lovingly demonstrated by caring for Robert for over a decade.
The Conaway family is thankful for the loving support and care that Robert received from Ruby, Clarissa and staff during his long stay at The Village at University Gates.

A private family service and burial will take place at Parkview Cemetery in Waterloo, Ontario.   A date for a celebration of life where we can join and share our memories of Robert will be announced in the coming weeks.  In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Robert’s memory to Hospice Waterloo Region (www.hospicewaterloo.ca/donate/ ).

Messages and condolences may be left for the family at www.tricitycremations.com or 519.772.1237. Please visit Robert's obituary notice on Facebook.

Hanna Bunnett

Hanna Bunnett or affectionately known as Hanna Clause, Hanna Banana, Tante, Nanny, Mom and friend. Hanna entered eternal life this past Friday, August 19, 2022. She said she was vintage at age 74. Her spirit will be carried on and be greatly missed by family and friends that span generations and many circles. Hanna would like you all to know her work here is done.

Hanna certainly had some issues with declining health concerns. This recent bout brought on an infection that compounded into failures that would greatly hinder the quality of life if she recovered coming out the other end. Mom was comfortable with her choice to receive as much support from Dr.'s as needed to keep her well enough for family to spend some time with her. She still expressed concern about how we felt and didn't want to prolong anything. We were by her side as modern assistance was phased out and she began to relax.

She was accepting that we were good with her choice. She no longer needs to worry about sunscreen, no longer a concern or worry about eating healthy, cold salty winters or trying to one up her aging friends with competitive sickness bragging rights. She was good. The transition with her passing was smooth, calm and we are grateful. She is now with her mom and sister, creating a new bitch and stitch club.

The time-honored tradition of writing an obituary letter is on the wane, mirroring a decline of letter-writing overall. "Write a nice obituary for me." She said. "Something non traditional, make 'em smile. But don't be rude." My mom asked this of me because of my unconventional way of thinking. "Don't try to name everyone because you'll forget someone and the ad will cost you your inheritance if you did." (We giggled.) Those who knew Hanna often received letters, Christmas cards, Birthday cards, congratulations cards or thank you cards. Made with love from her heart, always welcomed or even unexpected at times. They were always fantastic and heart warming. Just one way of saying she was thinking of you.

Hanna had strong beliefs about family values that never waivered. Family and friends were always at the forefront, core principles, connecting, and helping others from her heart, even to a fault ;) Those who've taken her lessons to heart will continue to ensure this is passed on and is a beautiful thing.

No buildings named after Hanna; no monuments erected or street names in her honor. However my mother held a few titles with pride. Devoted daughter, sister, mother and friend. She made living the best life possible with connections and the chance to know and love each and every family member, their additions and friends new and old. How much more blessed can a person be?

Cremation will take place this week, her ashes will be kept around as long as the urn matches the décor, or interment is arranged. Mom, giggled at that line.

We are inviting everyone to gather at 1259 Bridge st in New Dundee for 9 a.m. Saturday, August 27th. We will gladly provide coffee/donuts, a service hosted by a long time family friend, Pastor Ken DeMaere followed by the interment at St. Peters Lutheran Cemetery 243 Weber St E, Kitchener, ON N2H 1E9 for 11 a.m. Returning to New Dundee for a light lunch.

Finally, the family asks that in honor of Hanna you simply pay it forward with kindness and write your MP to ask for the repeal of Day Light Saving Time, because she hated that. Dress code is comfortable and respectful as a request. No shirt, no shoes, no service. Pffft!! Yes George, you have to wear pants.

If you want to, you can look for Hanna in the evening sunset or with the earliest spring daffodils. You know she will be there in one form or another.

I'll leave you with this...please don't cry because she is gone; instead be happy that she was here.

Messages and condolences may be left at www.tricitycremations.com. Please visit Hanna's obituary notice on Facebook.

Raised on the Oneida Nation of the Thames, her roots were there. She later became a member of Chippewas of Kettle and Stony Point, where her husband is from. She lived in London, ON for almost three decades before moving to Cambridge, ON twenty-three years ago. She made Cambridge her home with her husband of 41 years, Richard N. Bressette. Forever and fondly remembered by her children James L. Bressette of Chippewa of the Thames, ON, Andrea Juutilainen (Darren) of Cambridge, ON, Darryl Bressette of Cambridge, ON and Jocelyn Morgan (Rodney) of Cambridge, ON. Fondly remembered by grandchildren Jasmine, Aaron, Caylee, Sophie, Gracie, and Olivia. She will be remembered by her nephews, nieces, cousins and all extended family and friends.  Predeceased by her father Oliver Doxtator and mother Loriene Lampman nee Ireland, both of Oneida Nation of the Thames.

Carol was an avid music lover. She loved her rock, classic rock and 80s rock. Her album collection she was proud of for many years. In her memory, please pick a song that reminds you of her, play it loud for her as she makes her journey home to that “peaceful easy feeling”. In her last decade of declining health, she couldn’t dance to her songs, she loved to dance. Have a dance for/with her, for we know she’s able to dance now.

Carol's family would like to acknowledge all the care and compassion she has received over the years by Dr. Jay Geddes, Dr. Roya Shaikholeslami, Dr. Christine Macie and Lana, RN. Most recent addition was Dr. Rashad Ali to her respiratory care. For the care received by ProResp including the kind delivery people.

Visitation for immediate family to take place Thursday, August 18th. Cremation to follow.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, September 25th, on her 64th birthday.
