Mark Emerson Kelly

Passed away suddenly, on Sunday October 27th, 2019 at the age of 61. 

Loving father to Brandon Kelly (Jamie), Kyle Kelly, and Bryanna Ruetz (Mike).  One of Mark’s greatest joys and his most honoured title was that of “Grandpa” to his five grandchildren;  Amelia, Rosie, Grace, Emerson and Scottlyn. Dear son to Larry Kelly. Predeceased by his mother Johanne Kelly (Dunbrook).

Mark worked with Sears for 30 years before retiring in 2012. He was known for his ability to make others laugh and feel at ease. He was a constant comedian and made friends everywhere he went.

Private cremation has taken place.  A Celebration of Mark’s life will be held at the Concordia Club, 429 Ottawa St. S. Kitchener on Saturday, November 2nd. A Memorial visitation will take place from 1pm – 2pm, with the Celebration of Life to follow.

John Frederick Vollans

 Passed away suddenly at his residence on Friday October 25th, 2019 at the age of 63 years.

John was the former owner/operator of Big John’s Submarines. He was an avid sports fan, he especially enjoyed boxing and hockey and he loved watching movies and was a real movie buff.
 
Loving father of Michael Jake Vollans. Dear Brother of Cheryl Vollans and Mike Vollans. He is also survived by his grand-daughters, Bryn and Nevaeh and by his nephews Jeff and Edgar.
 
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday November 22, 2019 at
the Royal Canadian Legion (Branch #530), 316 Marsland Dr., Waterloo from 2:00pm to 4:30pm.

Roger Jones “Granddad”

Roger took his final journey "Home" on Oct 23, 2019 and is survived by his three sons, Derek (Rose) Magnetawan, Ontario, Mel (Barb) Invermere, British Columbia, and Raymond of Hamilton Ontario. Eight grandchildren Chris (Marissa); Gillian (Dave Pys) of Ayr; Tracy of Ayr; Trevor of Sault Ste Marie, Jason (Ira) of Sherwood Park, Alberta; Emily of Invermere, British Columbia, Angie of Cambridge; Ray of Cambridge and sixteen great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews in England, United States and  New Zealand.

Predeceased by his wife Sylvia of 73 years (2015) and their son Christopher (1952).

oger was born in Aberfan, Wales and moved to Redditch, England when he was 8 years old. As a child he survived the Great Depression and started work when he was 10 years old, earning less than one penny a day. When he turned 18, he was drafted into the British Army and spent 6 years with the Essex 49th Division infantry and at the young age of 20 participated in the 1944 Normandy campaign invasion, landing on Gold beach.

During the war his duties took him through France, Belgium and Holland where he was injured by shrapnel causing wounds to both legs. His post war assignments were spent at the sea port in Cuxhaven Germany as military movement control.

Following his discharge from the army, he returned to Redditch England and began work at Birmingham Small Arms Co (BSA) plant as a motorcycle technician and then working at the High Duty Alloys in the tool room and die shop where he became a Machinist.

In 1957 Roger and his family immigrated to Canada on the Queen Mary from Dover to New York and made their home in Galt, Ontario. Roger was a “Jack of all trades” and worked a number of years as a supervisor at Shurly-Dietrich-Atkins Co and finally as Quality Control at Walker Exhaust.

Roger spent most of his working life in Cambridge and retired moving to Kincardine, Ontario for 10 years and returning back to Cambridge and then residing in Ayr for nine years up until 2012 when they moved to St. Andrews Terrace, Cambridge; where he was a well-known character with a unique sense of humor with strong opinions that he made known to everyone he met.  

Roger's "Celebration of Life" will be held on October 31, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Trinity Anglican Church, Cambridge, Ontario. Light lunch to follow.

Christopher J. “Chris”  ​Van Gerwen

With profound sadness we announce that Chris passed away at Grand River Hospital on Monday October 21, 2019 after a courageous cancer battle at the age of 54 years.

Beloved husband and soulmate to Connie (nee Schroeder) for 32 years.  Proud father of Brett (Nicole), Nathan (Jocelyn) and Eric (Kaitlyn).  Dear brother of John (Tracy), Paul (Brenda) and Jerry (Leslie); son-in-law of Jean Schroeder; brother-in-law of Cathy Mathers and Steve Schroeder (Brenda).  Predeceased by his parents Harry and Anne (nee Vernooy), father-in-law Harold Schroeder and brother -in-law Jerry Mathers.  He will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues.

Chris graduated from University of Waterloo in 1989 and had a career as a Professional Engineer, working the past 17 years at Andronowski & Associates.  Chris’s passions were anything outdoors; fishing, biking, snowmobiling and was often seen puttering outside at his home in Conestogo with his faithful dog Zoey nearby. Chris will be remembered for his energy, thoughtfulness and devotion to his family.  

Cremation has taken place.  A private family interment will take place in Exeter Public Cemetery, Exeter Ontario. A Celebration of Life to be announced at a later date.

Barbara Alice Hanna (née Harback) passed away peacefully with family by her side at the Lisaard House Hospice of Cambridge, on Sunday October, 20 2019 in her 77th year.

Loving wife of the late Bill Hanna. Devoted mother of Bill (Darlene) Hanna and Patricia (Richard) Boussert. Dear grandmother of Kristen, Sierra, Erica, Jacob and Paige.

There will be a private family graveside service. If desired, donations to The Lisaard House Hospice of Cambridge, in memory of Barbara Hanna would be appreciated.

Noah “Noey” Michael Kienapple

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Noah Kienapple, from Meningococcal Meningitis, on Tuesday, October 15, at St. Mary’s General Hospital in Kitchener at the young age of 21 years.

Noah is the beloved son of Allison Stevens and Todd Kienapple, cherished brother of Mckayla Kienapple (Randy Paterson) and loving boyfriend of Christina Deligianis. Proud grandson of Ruth Stevens and Larry Kienapple (Alice). He will be sadly missed by his many uncles, aunts, cousins, friends, coaches, teachers and colleagues. Predeceased by his adoring grandparents, Grandma Brenda (née Schilling), Grandpa Walter Stevens; and by his great grandparents and his German Shepard, Hooch.

He attended Northlake Woods Public School and graduated from WCI. He attended Conestoga College for a short time and got hired at Dean Lane Contracting as an apprentice. He loved working for Dean Lane and talked about work frequently.

As an avid hockey player, sports and fitness enthusiast, Noah was involved with Waterloo Wolves Hockey (AAA, AA, MD), WCI Hockey Team, Spring Ice Hockey, KW Ball & In-Line Hockey, as well as Team Ontario for Ball Hockey and his Paris Pick-Up Hockey League. Friends and family were a huge part of his life and he will be fondly remembered by many. He touched many lives with his compassion, love and generosity. His larger than life personality will be greatly missed.

A very special thank you for the overwhelming generosity of those who have contributed to the GoFundMe page. The outpouring of love, kind words and support are genuinely appreciated by Noah’s family. We especially would like to thank the staff of St. Mary’s Hospital, for their care and compassion towards our family during Noah’s brief and sudden stay.

Cremation has taken place and a private family gathering will be held at Williamsburg Dedication Centre. A Celebration of Noah’s life will take place on Saturday, October 26, from 1 – 6 pm at the Embassy Hall – Bingemans, 425 Bingemans Centre Dr., Kitchener, ON N2B 3X7. Family and friends will speak at 3:30 pm.

John (Bill) Wilson Donnachie

Passed away  on Monday, October 14, 2019 at Cambridge Memorial Hospital.
 
Survived by his loving wife of 70 years; Mary (née Patterson), son John Donnachie (Lily), daughter Barbara Enright (David) granddaughters Becky Wood (Ken) and Jennifer Enright, grandsons Andrew Donnachie and Alexander Donnachie and great granddaughter Arya. Sadly missed by his brother Rowan Donnachie and his sisters Margaret Trupp and Jean Donnachie.
 
Born in Ayrshire, Scotland and immigrated to Canada as a small child with his parents and brother. He spent his youth in New Brunswick and attended the University of New Brunswick, School of Social Work in Halifax and Mount Allison University.
 
John worked in mental health services in New Brunswick, Sudbury General Hospital and in various capacities with the Family and Children’s Services of Waterloo Region for over 30 years. He also served in the Army Militia as an officer.
 
After retirement John engaged in some volunteer work while enjoying golf and curling. He was a member Trillium United Church in Preston, Ontario.

Linda Ruth Shmyr

Passed away peacefully on Sunday October 13, 2019 at the age of 73 years, surrounded by her family.

Linda was a longtime member of the Cyrstal Rebekkah Lodge, Waterloo and she had worked at Hi -Way Market and Zellers for many years.

She is the Loving wife of Larry Shmyr. Dear Mother of Patricia Coutts, Susan Proulx and James Lichty; Step-mom of Dalyce and Kalend Shmyr. Proud grandma of Alyssa and Kathryn Coutts, Amanda and Jason Proulx  and Jessica Lichty.

Cremation has taken place. A private family gathering will be held a later date.
