The dash:

Born in Tillsonburg, the thirteenth of fourteen children, Gord moved with his family to Galt at a young age where he attended Dickson School. He loved the game of baseball, playing on the Galt Terriers Team in 1950. He was the first Galt boy to sign a professional baseball contract. He was a southpaw pitcher and was signed by the N.Y. Giants in July 1950. Bursitis in the shoulder of his pitching arm sadly ended his baseball career.

In 1955 he married Marie Saner.

Gord drove taxi and worked at Shurley & Dietrichs until 1957 when Gord enlisted in the
Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) where he was a licensed truck mechanic. His 12 year army
career took him to many places, Lucan ON, Calgary AB, Germany, and Gagetown NB. He
spent 1 year in Egypt and 6 months in Cyprus doing peacekeeping missions.

In 1969 he left the CAF to move back to Ontario, purchased a variety store business with his
sister Olive for 10 years, while also working at James Morton’s Limited until retirement.

Gord came out of retirement to work with Canadian Corps of Commissionaires doing security
work at Revenue Canada for many years. Gord’s last place of employment until he was 83 was at the Flamboro Speedway.

Gord had a great love for his grandchildren. He always attended and cheered them on at their
sporting events, offering rides, and supporting them in any way he could. He was very happy
with all of his life’s endeavours and loved to share his many memories with the family.

The family would like to thank the Paramed nurses, and the staff and volunteers at Wellington Hospice, Guelph ON for their care and support of Gord during his last week.
