August 16, 1945-July 7, 2018.
He spent the last days before his journey surrounded by his beloved wife, Gay, daughters Cheryl and Cathy, granddaughters Cassandra, Cadence, Ainsley and Abby, with his two little dogs by his side.
His last months were made joyous by visits from his brother, David and his wife Debbie, friends and family (including all the mothers, sisters, sons, daughters, nieces and nephews he adopted throughout his life), and the birds and squirrels who congregated around his birdfeeders; an eclectic assembly of music on his YouTube channel; many library books; several hands of Euchre; and a final bowl of delicious strawberry and vanilla ice cream.
Some of his ashes will rest beneath a shaggy bark hickory tree on his brother’s farm in Napanee; some will be released furtively on the ripples of the Grand; a few will settle on the bottoms of jars of the Atlantic and Pacific, in which he finally dipped a toe.
His family thanks you all for accompanying him on his journey, filling it with love and gratitude. We are deeply grateful to the nurses and PSWs on his palliative team who brought comfort to his and all our lives, becoming friends along the way and enabling him to die in the place where he did so much living.
He didn’t want a service or large gathering. Please remember him by giving your time to another in need, or by donating to your favourite cause or charity.
