David Shoemaker passed away peacefully at Freeport Hospital in Kitchener on Monday December 20th with his wife of 52 years by his side.  David was 78. He is survived by his wife Margaret, his son Kristian, his daughter-in-law Delia and the light of his life, his granddaughter Katelyn.

The family would like to thank David’s nieces Moni, Heidi and Doris, and a special thank you to Margaret’s sister Heidi.  The family would also like to recognize and thank the kind staff of PT2 at Freeport Hospital who took such good care of David during his stay.  Margaret would also like to thank the Rev. Marty Molengraaf for his remarkable kindness and compassion and also acknowledge the support of her neighbours Mike and Teri Ryan and Glenn Paulley.

David graduated from Ryerson in Toronto and worked his entire career in Information Technology, starting with large main-frame computing and finishing at NCR in Waterloo after 28 years.  What he enjoyed most was being a handyman for family and friends alike; but his biggest pride was his family, especially Katie.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Waterloo Wellington would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.  Messages and condolences may be left for the family at   www.tricitycremations.com  or 519.772.1237. Please visit David's obituary notice on Facebook.

I am deeply saddened by the news of Dave’s passing. In 1989 we were newlyweds navigating a new life in our very first home…right beside the Shoemakers. We learned so much from Dave, and Margie, and are eternally grateful for their many kindnesses. Dave was one of a kind.

Devika and I are so sorry to hear this news. Dave was a good friend and neighbour. We enjoyed the Laurier gym together and skiing while doing our best Franz Klammer impressions. Dave was pretty much as crazy a skier as I was so when we were unexpectedly snowed in at Horseshoe for a couple of days, we made the best of it and skied hard from first tracks to last lift. Dave had a generous spirit and taught me a lot about looking after a house and a yard. He was a particularly good at teaching leaf management.
He will be missed by all.

Dear Margaret,
I am so sorry for your loss. Dave was a long-time co-worker with me at NCR, and I was sorry to hear last year when we ran into each other at Sobeys that Dave was ill. He was always the go-to person when you needed help with something. He will be missed by many! Take comfort in the fact that he is at peace, and take care of yourself and your family in the days ahead.
