Rita passed away on Wednesday December 5, 2018 at the age of 82 years.

Loving mother of Sue (Joe) Sadowski, Pat Rees, Kathy Shea and Betsy Thiede.  She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren and her great grandchildren.  Predeceased by her former husband Gerry Hiscock who passed away on January 30, 2016.

Rita took great pride in her role as supervisor of Little Short Stop stores in the Kitchener - Waterloo area, where she retired after 39 years at the age of 78.

She was an avid baker and was quick to share her baked goods with all those she knew. Rita loved to crochet and there are many family, friends and colleagues that have one of her afghans. She was also an oil painter and again just another of her hobbies that she shared with others.  Rita was especially proud of being a Lioness and helping with charities for many years.

Special thank you to the Doctors, nurses, student nurses and all the staff of St. Mary’s General Hospital for their very kind and compassionate care as well as her home care providers.

An extra special thanks to Rita’s closest friends who devoted their loving support and time throughout many years. We are truly grateful.

An open house will take place for family, friends and colleagues to Celebrate Rita’s life and share memories of Rita.  It is to be held fittingly, on her birthday, Wednesday January 23, 2019 at the Army Navy & Airforce Veterans Club, 408 Gage Avenue from 1:00 -4:00 pm.

Donations may be made to a charity of choice, as expressions of sympathy. Messages and Condolences can be sent through tricitycremations.com

My best friend for 16 years. You will be so missed by many, but me most of all. I was not ready to let you go my friend. I think of you every day, mostly with smiles. We sure had a lot of fun and adventures.
So happy I took you on a surprise picnic , it was a wonderful day. One of my most treasured memories.
Love you my friend, till we meet again.

Rita was a member of our Red Hat Society chapter, the Majestic Magentas, for about one year and joined us for many outings, such as tea at McDougall Cottage and New Dundee Emporium,.She attended performances of Menopause the Musical and Kitchener Witches with us, came to pot lucks, jewelry crafting and the Butterfly Conservatory. She was very active with us. Our favorite description of her was a 'firecracker,' cause she sure was explosive! Her sense of humor was contagious. We miss her.

So sorry to hear this. Rita was one of the great Ladies who shaped me. She was my Supervisor and dear friend during my time at LSS in the 1990s. A staunch tough talking woman in big heels and short skirts. She never suffered fools gladly and seemed at times larger than life. Many managers quaked in their boots when they heard she was coming. But for those willing to listen and work hard to make things better she was a tireless champion and an inspiration. Rita taught me so much about both work and life. To this day I treasure the painting she gave me as a parting gift when I left Short Stop.
