Donald Mikel

Passed away peacefully in his sleep at Grand River Hospital - KW Campus on Wednesday March 15, 2017 in his 88th year. 
 
Loving Husband of Hazel Mikel wife of 61 years.
 
Don is survived by his children:  Stuart (Sharon), Peter (Tino), Barbara Kuhl, Roger (Jackie), Donna Adie (Mike).  His cherished Grandchildren:  Rachel, Scott and Elizabeth, his beloved sister Ruby Shantz and his many fur "Grandkids". 
 
Don enjoyed life, his love for children was well known. He would stop and talk to babies as he shopped or just strolled the mall. He loved his gardens and had a special affinity for flowers and all plant life. 
 
His pride in his children was known to all who would stop and chat.  He thought the sun rose and set on his Grandbaby Elizabeth who kept him on his toes and made him smile. 
 
Don was a much loved resident of Kloster Court Apartments for many years and will be missed by the residents past and present.

As the youngest of 9 children Don was predeceased by his 2 brothers Edwin and Harry and his 5 sisters:  Viola Chapin, Helen Steiss, Gertrude Gardner, Florence Zehr and Edna Shupe. Who welcome him Home with open arms.
 
Don lived and worked in Kitchener, over the years he was employed by Rich's Shoes, Hiway Market and Walkwell Shoes. 
 
His roots are deep in the community and will be missed all who knew him.

You are welcome to come and share memories of Don at Briarfield Gardens (formerly Emmanuel Village), 1250 Weber Street, East, Kitchener, ON N2A 4E1, on Saturday March 18, 2017 from 2-4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, and as a thank you to the wonderful staff, donations to the Grand River Hospital Foundation are appreciated.

Please accept my condolences, Don was a very kind and caring man I am glad I was able to get to know him briefly during his hospital stay.

Dear Hazel, Roger & Family
We extend our deepest sympathy to you on the passing of Don. From the times we were in Don's company and from the great stories Elizabeth has shared with us, it is apparent that Don had a very pleasant and teasing sense of humor. He was a good man who will be missed by many.

Our condolences to you Hazel, and your family. Even though it has been awhile since we have seen you & Don, we fondly remember the pleasant interactions with him. He will be remembered for his gentle soul and his humorous touch. Please find peace and comfort knowing that you will be in our thoughts and prayers.
