Passed away quietly at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, November 2, 2021.
Predeceased by her parents Mabel and William Henry (Bill) Harding, beloved wife of Stewart, proud mother of Susan (Dennis Cristofani) and Richard (Michael Mitchell), and caring grandmother to Jennifer (Sean Christensen) and Rachel.
Ellen enjoyed a country village childhood in England, where despite her unassuming personality her infectious smile and kind heart lead her to being crowned Miss Eccleshall in her teens. Ellen went on to work at English Electric Co. in Stafford, where she met Stewart, her husband of 62 years. Arriving in Canada in October 1969, she was surprised to see snow already on the ground, but persevered and created a warm home. Determined to know more about the country that they had just emigrated to, Ellen and Stewart often took family trips and explored Canada from coast to coast, sometimes taking her parents along. Having opened the door to travel, it is no surprise that over the years Ellen and Stewart visited numerous places on five continents around the globe, be it for a whirlwind 8 countries in 7 days bus tour or a cruise around New Zealand. Ellen spent her later years enjoying the warm community spirit and beauty of Foxboro Green.
Ellen's quiet but generous and caring nature and easy laugh will be missed by family, friends, and neighbours.
In lieu of flowers and a funeral, the family would appreciate donations in Ellen's name to Grand River Regional Cancer Centre (Grand River Hospital Foundation) or Juravinski Cancer Centre (Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation).
