Passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at Grand River Hospital, Kitchener on Friday August 18, 2023 in his 88th year.

Ernst was born on August 28, 1935 in Stutthof, Germany to parents Berta Mohring (nee Wendt) and Heinrich Mohring.  Ernst was 1 of 9 children and their father Heinrich died at the age of 45 resulting in Ernst having to start working a full time job at the tender age of 13 to help support the family.  Ernst met his wife Ursula when he was 21 and they were married for 67 years.  Ernst was a glazier by trade and when they immigrated to Canada in 1965 he started working for Bullas Glass not being able to speak a word in English and then ended his career with Kitchener Glass in 1997.  Ernst loved to make stained glass art and if you were part of Ernst’s life, you would have received one of his creations.  When Ursula received the news of her husband’s passing, she wanted to say that Ernst was a good man to those in his life and even to strangers and he had worked very hard his whole life and was always a very helpful man who never procrastinated.

Beloved husband and best friend of Ursula (nee Villinger) whom were married on September 15, 1956.  Loving & cherished father of Johanna and Nancy Mohring (Paul Amaley) Proud Opa of Konrad, Victor and Delbert. Dear Brother of Peter and Heidi.

Predeceased by his parents Heinrich Mohring and Berta Mohring (nee Wendt).   Predeceased by his brothers Otto, Harry, Günther, Reinhard, Heinz and Fritz Mohring.

Cremation has taken place. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.

The family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all the staff and volunteers at the Region of Waterloo Hospice for all they have done and continue to do.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Region of Waterloo Hospice as expressions of sympathy.

Messages and condolences may be left for the family at www.trictycremations.com or 519.772. 1237 . Please visit  Ernst's obituary notice on Facebook.

I worked at Kitchener Glass for a couple of summers while in High School and often worked side by side with Ernst. I learned not to touch the radio! He was a good teacher and despite his gruff exterior he was a gentle soul!

I came back and worked full time in the office for another five years. On my last day Ernst invited me to his house for breakfast which consisted of only brandy and cheese. I don’t remember much else of that day as a result of the brandy but I will never forget that time with him.

Condolences to all of his family and all those who got to know him.

Thank you so much for your comment Art! It touched my heart because what you shared was my dad to a tee when he was younger. He did soften alot in his old age and didn't touch the brandy much but remained pretty stubborn til the end. I know he would have loved to drink a tea and eat a plum in his final days, but sadly he never got the chance. I don't think I've had the pleasure to meet you, but I just read what you wrote here to my mom and we both enjoyed what your words and it made us smile. Thank you for taking the time, we appreciated it very much.

Thank you for your comment Art. I don't think I've met you, but what you described about my dad was exactly him in his younger years! I read your comment to my mom in hospice and it made both of us smile and just to let you know my mom had a say about the radio at home. He did soften a bit in his old age and didn't touch the brandy much anymore, but there was alot more wiggle room when it came to his stubborness. In the end my dad would have loved to have a cup of tea and to eat a plum, but sadly, he never got the chance. Thanks for sharing that story with us. We appreciated it.
