January 30, 1939 - January 10, 2022

Gustav was born in January 1939 in Prazuchy, Poland, his family immigrating to Ajax, Ontario when he was 14 years old. He worked at General Motors in Oshawa until he retired
after 32 years. Gus played semi-professional soccer for numerous clubs including Oshawa Italia (1965 Dominion Challenge Cup Finalists) and Club Lorelei, making many lifelong friends during his soccer career.

In 1966 Gus married Mary Ann and lived in the same house where he grew up in Ajax. They had three daughters, Mariette (John), Erica (John “JR”), Ingrid (deceased), two grandchildren Derica (Markus) and Alexander. He loved having family gatherings and was very proud of his family’s achievements. Gus and his family travelled many places including throughout Canada, the Caribbean, United States and Europe. He will be greatly missed by the Seide, Bottcher, and Da Silva families.

We are grateful to the staff at St. Andrew’s Terrace for their care. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Gus is at peace - no more suffering.

To Aunt Mary Anne, Mariette, Erica, Alex and Derica, we will always remember your cherished father and grandfather, our uncle, with great love and admiration.

Uncle Gus was an enormous part of our family. He was a special friend and brother in-law to our parents, Joan and Desmond, making our father's face light up during any visit and especially in his late years, giving dad a real boost and renewed vigour; his visits were lovingly appreciated by us all. As an uncle he always treated us with no nonsense respect and friendship, and we loved him for always being his genuine self. Of course, one of the biggest Uncle Gus stories, that still makes us laugh to this day, is the memory of our youngest sibling Elliott eating all of the alcohol-soaked strawberries that were in the famous punch Uncle Gus made for our parents’ 25th anniversary. Needless to say, Elliott did not make the pictures that evening lol! Punch was the right word for that concoction as his lights were out! We will forever share memories of Uncle Gus’ warm spirit whether at family gatherings, trips to Hay Bay and P.E.I. or just sitting down to watch a soccer or tennis match. We miss him dearly and are very thankful that we were able to share both he and Aunt Mary Anne in our lives.

Love to you all
The de Barros family (Bruce, Conrad, Desiree and Elliott)

I was saddened to hear of Gus’s passing. Gus was like a father to me from a young age. Ingrid and I are Best Friends and when she passed Gus and Mary Ann helped me mourn and survive her death. They took on Ingrid’s roll in my daughter Bria’s life as she was the best God mother a child could ask for. Gus always cheered for me on the soccer sideline like his own child…fed me dinner almost every night after school and drove us any where we wanted to go. Gus was a proud dad of all 3 of his girls and me the tag along. I can’t thank the Seide family enough for always making my daughter and I feel like part of the family. We love you all and we are mourning with you 🙏

Love always Cindy & Bria Dowson
