Guy Robert Boudreau, 39, died peacefully at home in Cambridge, ON, on August 13, 2018 after battling epithelioid sarcoma for over 20 years. He fought hard and never gave up.

Guy grew up in Petit-de-Grat, Cape Breton. When looking back at photos of Guy as a child he always had a smile. He loved playing with Tonka trucks and later, playing hockey. Eventually Guy left Cape Breton to attend Acadia University and then Dalhousie University to become a mechanical engineer. Guy moved to Ontario in 2003 to work. During these years he became passionate about car rally sport and mountain biking, as well as continuing to play recreational hockey. Car rallies took him all over the Ontario backroads and he travelled as far as Utah for mountain biking. He participated in the Ride to Conquer Cancer and the Spike for Sarcoma volleyball tournament, which he attended this year, despite being very ill. Most importantly, moving to the Guelph area brought his wife, Akiko, into his life, and although they had a brief time together she brought so much joy and meaning to his life. They bought a house together in Cambridge, where they have been living with their cat, Minion, for the past two years.

Guy is survived by his wife, Akiko Kanagawa, his parents Rena (d’Entremont) and Vincent (Junior) Boudreau, and his brothers Ryan (Christie) and Justin (Carrie). He was predeceased by his infant sister Leanne, his maternal grandparents, Lucie and Denis d’Entremont and his paternal grandparents, Cecilia (Landry) and Vincent (Severin) Boudreau.

A memorial gathering will be held at the Hespeler Legion, No. 272, in Cambridge, on August 22, 2018 from 4 - 9 pm. A mass and burial of the ashes will occur in Petit-de-Grat at a later date.

Guy would want people to live and laugh, please hug your loved ones tight and remember that life can be too short. If you wish, donations will be accepted for a commemorative tree to be planted in Cambridge, or to the Sarcoma Cancer Foundation of Canada. Please contact the family if you wish to make a donation for the commemorative tree.

To Junior, Rena, Ryan, Justin and Akiko,
We’re so sorry for your loss. We loved Guy so much, and we are so happy to have known him. What a wonderful, kind, fun-loving person! Always happy, and joking with us. Always, up for anything! I loved our “family” get-togethers at Christmas time to decorate the tree! He was the best friend and neighbour you could ask for. Even after he moved to Cambridge, he always stopped in for a visit when he was in town. He was so thoughtful when we visited last month. He wanted to walk us to the nearby park so the girls could play. He was always thinking of others and never said no to helping out.
We will miss him so much. I’m so thankful we could call him our friend and that we now know you all, his family, who are as warm, kind and friendly as we will remember him. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

I want to express my thanks to Guy for a really invaluable gift he gave me and I am sure to others also fighting cancer. Through his words, his actions and his smile, even in the most difficult time in his own life, he inspired us to follow his example to keep fighting and to never give up. I regret that I never expressed my thanks to him in person.

What a sad day. My prayers and thoughts go out to all of Guys family. I had a unique experience in a rally with him and got us both totally off the course, actually lost.... He had nothing but smiles always. We still laughed about it tears later. Sadly missed by all, and resting in Gods arms now.

I was so sad to hear of Guy's passing after a long, difficult battle with cancer. Guy and I met back in 1999 at O'Brien Hall (we were neighbours -- I think I was room 516 and he was 517), and being two Caper Bretoners studying engineering we formed an instant bond and got along well. I will always remember his zest for life, his humour and his smile. He will be greatly missed by everyone he crossed paths with. My sincerest condolences go out to all his family and his wife. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
