Passed away on June 5, 2022 at Cambridge Memorial Hospital.

Beloved husband of 64 years to Jean. Cherished father of Susan Ford. Also missed by Vine, dog guide. Predeceased by his sisters Jean Gauthier and Audrey LePoidum.

Harold was born in Oak Bay Mills, Quebec on August 18, 1933 and raised in Quebec, New Brunswick and Ontario. He worked for 48 years as a steamfitter, with 7 of those years as co-owner of Class Controls Ltd.

Harold joined the Legion in 1979 to play on their golf team, but soon realized that there was more to the Legion than sports. He was the first Vice President from 1997 – 1998 and 1998 – 1999 and the President of Branch 272 from 1999 – 2003, 2007 – 2007 – 2009 and 2010 – 2013. He was involved in leadership, sports, senior care and was also the Legion treasurer. He was the Nevada Chair for seven years, Deputy Commander of Zone C2 and a visiting Veteran for Veteran’s Care.

Harold was awarded with a Certificate of Merit in 2001, Life Membership in 2004, Legionnaire of the Year in 2003 and received a Queen’s Jubilee Medal.

His volunteer activities include participating in the Committee for Warrior’s Day, Canada Day Parades, Meals on Wheels, becoming President of the Men’s Section Golf Course and being awarded Life Membership of the Puslinch Golf Course.

His hobbies and interests include golf, curling, the Legion and supporting Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at the Hespeler Legion on July 10 from 1 – 5 pm. As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made to Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides or to the Royal Canadian Legion Hespeler.

Warm and vibrant, Harold touched every person he met with his unique ability to make you feel welcome. Lighting up the room with his smiles and good humour, he always saw the beauty in everyday moments, and especially cherished his beloved family Jean, Susan and Vine. Loyal and fierce of heart, I will never forget his kindness and how he loved with his whole heart. Jean, Susan and Vine, I am so sorry for your loss but I know Harold’s spirit lives on in each one of you.
