Passed away peacefully in his 80th year at Innisfree House in Kitchener with his devoted son David Hugh (Anne Marie) by his side.

Survived by his loving wife, Lesley. Sadly missed by his sisters Margaret (Roger), Patricia, Mary (Lawrence), Anne (Paul) and his sister-in-law Jane (Jimmy). Proud grandfather of Amanda (Andrew), Nolan, Brittany (Alex), Bryce (Ana) and Vanessa. Cherished great-grandfather of Sabrina, Luke and Charlotte. Uncle to several nieces and nephews. Dear friend to John and Grace Gagne.

A man of moral intelligence and integrity who applied whatever was right to everything he did.

As per Hugh’s wishes, cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cambridge Memorial Hospital Fund or Innisfree House would be appreciated by the family.

Messages and condolences may be left at www.tricitycremations.com or 519.267.7199. Please visit Hugh's obituary notice on Facebook.

A sad day for us all losing such a good man. We’ve been friends of Lesley and Hugh for some 42 years, attended their wedding, spent wonderful vacations together in Maine and visited back and forth sharing special occasions.

He enjoyed a remarkable Canada Post career joining the Windsor post office in 1975 and was a key figure in the transition to the new mechanized mail processing plant on Walker Road. Later he moved on to senior management roles in Guelph and Kitchener.

Some succeed by what they know, some by what they do and some, like Hugh, by what they were. A true gentleman of a quiet demeanour his life was one of high standards, decency and integrity. We were richer to have known him… and poorer now that he’s gone.

Our condolences to Lesley and the entire McConville family

I was admin assistant for Hugh when he was Plant Manager in Kitchener. Besides being the quietest of all the managers that past through Kitchener, he was a very kind and considerate person. He brought a calmness that I had not experienced before. I will always remember his passion for gardening and the knowledge he was eager to share.

My sympathies to you Lesley and family. I worked for Hugh in Kitchener and would echo what both John Gagne and Mary Shilling have shared. Whatever Hugh did he thoroughly researched before he undertook the task. A memory of his high standards - when he bought his first computer he read the user guide from cover to cover before hitting the on button. That is how he seemed to approach gardening, wine making to recall just a few things. And of course - car repair - his Jaguar ! And yes in his quiet way you would come to understand his decency and integrity. So sorry for your loss.

We will remember Hugh as an unflappable leader in all of his capacities at Canada Post. Dependable, thoughtful and trustworthy as a good friend should be. As much as we worked with Hugh for a number of years, he was really more than a boss and/or co-worker, he was a friend. Our sincere condolences to Lesley and the McConville family. He really is gone too soon.
