Jim was born in the Ottawa Valley and arrived in Galt as a teenager, attending Galt Collegiate Institute, and graduating as a Diesel Engineer from Grier Institute of Technology in Chicago, Illinois.
Jim spent his lifetime in service to the community in Cambridge; as the owner of MacDonald’s Shell Service Stations in Galt, Preston and Hespeler, fleet manager at Bennett Chev-Olds, and a long career in residential and industrial/commercial Real Estate.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, he enjoyed bowling, curling and golf, and was ever committed to hockey, showing his local spirit through decades of dedication to the Cambridge Hornets. The team’s Allan Cup win, travels to Newfoundland, behind the Iron Curtain and the US for tournaments were highlights often regaled.
Jim married the love of his life, Ilene in 1960 and was heartbroken by her passing in 2019.
Jim is survived by his loving sister Sheila, brother in law Ken (Joyce), his children Shellie, Patti (Dan), James (Tamara), his grandchildren Matthew, Erin (James), Alex, Sarah, Jake (Hilary), Kyra (Alex), Jacob, Willow (Alex), great-grandchildren Lily, Hyland, Emma and Henry. He will also be deeply missed by cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues.
At Jim’s request, there will be no service. In memory and recognition of his life, donations can be made to the Cambridge Memorial Hospital Foundation or the Ontario Minor Hockey Foundation Scholarship Fund.
