James Floyd Burchatzki

A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held at Katie and Corey Gingerich’s home, 2569 Bleams Road, New Hamburg, Ontario 519-880-6839, on Saturday August 7, 2021 from 1 – 4 p.m. All are welcome to drop in and share memories.

Passed away peacefully at Freeport Hospital, Kitchener on Wednesday April 21, 2021 at the age of 76.

Born in Monkton, Ontario, son of the late Muriel Clara George (Yantzi) and Floyd Frederick Burchatzki.        

Jim grew up in Wellesley and New Hamburg, he graduated from WO and began an apprenticeship in sheet metal.  Also received his ticket in plumbing and gas fitting.  He owned and operated JB Services, a plumbing and heating business.

While recovering from an accident he went to university to obtain his teaching certificate and started to teach high school.  He taught in Burlington, KCI and Cameron Heights in Kitchener.

Jim coached high school hockey, Wilmot minor soccer and New Hamburg minor hockey and was very active in his children’s sports.

Jim had racing pigeons and always enjoyed riding his Harley.  

Loving father of Jeremy who predeceased him March 15, 2005, Shawn and his wife Sonya (Kraan) and Katie Gingerich and her husband Corey.

Very proud grandpa to Caitlyn, Abby and Owen Burchatzki, Ryan, Kyle and Tori Burchatzki and Hailey and Paige Gingerich.  Great grandpa to Calvin Balean.

Loving step-son of Glenn Yantzi who predeceased him August 29, 2019 and Debbie (Morrison) Yantzi.  His step-brother Aaron who predeceased June 29, 2006 and his step sister Tara Conkwright and her husband Andrew and their children Charlotte and Stella.

He is also fondly remembered by the Frank family and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Burchatzki taught me grade 9 technology about 13 years ago. Being the only girl in the class, he was a huge encouragement and support to my confidence. Not only did he teach us about wood working, sheet metal work and electrical, he taught us responsibility and persistence. I have thought about him and the lessons that he taught many frequently over the years. He will be missed.

Jimmy was always a welcoming face at Cameron Heights. He was a great story teller, mischevious prankster, and great friend. My condolences to his family and friends.
