Passed away peacefully surrounded by family, at Riverbend Place Retirement Home on Friday April 1, 2022 in her 83rd year, going home to be with her Lord and Saviour. As per her wishes, cremation has taken place. Jessie was the beloved wife of Thomas Gill for 58 yrs. She was the loving mother of Blair (Penny) and Jeremy (Jackie). She will be sadly missed by her 5 grandchildren Rachel (Abdul), Zechariah, Josiah (Courtney), Austin, and Ethan. Jessie was also blessed with 2 great grandchildren, Safiya and Nyla. Jessie was born to James Rose and Lillian Retford in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia on February 12, 1940. She has 8 siblings, survived by Lillian, Violet, James, and Ruth. Jessie is predeceased by her brothers Edward, Abner, David, and her sister Mildred. Jessie was loved by the many brother and sister-in-laws from both the Rose and Gill families.
Jessie attended Galt Collegiate Institute before beginning employment at Scroggins Shoe Factory. Her next employment was at Fairview Mennonite Home. She worked as a Personal Support Worker over a span of 18 years where she developed strong relationships with both staff and residents. She then became a seamstress for Mark’s Work Wearhouse, expanding upon her years of sewing experience making tailored suits, bridesmaids dresses, stuffed animals, and home decor. She was a skilled seamstress who was able to fix and create anything with a sewing needle and some thread.
A memorial service followed by a luncheon will be held at Calvary Pentecostal Assembly (127 Hespeler Road, Cambridge) on Friday, April 8th at 11 AM.
