He was known for his signature cowboy boots and black jeans.  He was an authentic and honest man, kind and concerned.  He never tired of watching the sunsets and the garden grow.

He truly lived in the moment and taught others to do the same.

He admired and loved his children: Jenny House and Jon (Jody) House.   In the last years he had the love and companionship of Sharon Kelly.... they liked to dance to the oldies, do crossword puzzles, read, visit greenhouses and explore roads less travelled.

He is also survived by siblings:  Kathy Howald, Arnold Read and Michael Read.   Remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews, by brother in-law, Tom Foulkes, by Sharon's family and friends, and by his many car buddies.   He was a caring "father figure" to Deanna Wood.  His cat Ollie will look for him for a long, long time.    Predeceased by his parents, Howard and Helen Read, and three siblings: Brent Read, Mark Read and Patricia Foulkes.

Cremation has taken place.  Please join the family for prayers at Knox Presbyterian Church, 50 Erb Street West, Waterloo  at 2 pm on Sunday, March 26.... and/or you are welcome to  drop in to   The Lions Brewery Restaurant,  Huether Hotel, 59 King Street North, Waterloo any time after the church service up until  5 pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations to Knox Presbyterian Church would be  sincerely appreciated.

A tremendous thank you to our support network that surrounded us with food, love, cards and kindnesses; every gesture meant a great deal to Blake.   He was humbled by your thoughtfulness.

(Some day when the pages of my life end, I know that my short time with Blake will have been one of its most beautiful chapters.   Always my love, S)

A sad day for all of us concerned . Blake was a very intelligent man with a great sense of humor and empathy for others , John Wayne once said : "There are a lot of people in the cemetery who cannot be replaced ". Blake is one of them .

I first met Blake about 40 years ago when he and my cousin Sharon paid us a visit. He was just one of those people that left a life-long lasting impression and one that you never ever forgot. Blake had a superb sense of humour and was truly a classy gentleman. I often wished we had become better acquainted over the years and am saddened by the fact we did not. I last saw Blake last May and was so pleased we had the opportunity to reconnect. He was in many ways the same fellow I had come to know 40 years ago. Sharon, I can only imagine the sense of loss you feel at this time. To Blake's children and siblings, please be assured that your dad and brother was a fantastic fellow that will not be forgotten. Blake, thank you for the memories, laughs and love you provided all that you came into contact with. You will be missed.
