He was known for his signature cowboy boots and black jeans. He was an authentic and honest man, kind and concerned. He never tired of watching the sunsets and the garden grow.
He truly lived in the moment and taught others to do the same.
He admired and loved his children: Jenny House and Jon (Jody) House. In the last years he had the love and companionship of Sharon Kelly.... they liked to dance to the oldies, do crossword puzzles, read, visit greenhouses and explore roads less travelled.
He is also survived by siblings: Kathy Howald, Arnold Read and Michael Read. Remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews, by brother in-law, Tom Foulkes, by Sharon's family and friends, and by his many car buddies. He was a caring "father figure" to Deanna Wood. His cat Ollie will look for him for a long, long time. Predeceased by his parents, Howard and Helen Read, and three siblings: Brent Read, Mark Read and Patricia Foulkes.
Cremation has taken place. Please join the family for prayers at Knox Presbyterian Church, 50 Erb Street West, Waterloo at 2 pm on Sunday, March 26.... and/or you are welcome to drop in to The Lions Brewery Restaurant, Huether Hotel, 59 King Street North, Waterloo any time after the church service up until 5 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to Knox Presbyterian Church would be sincerely appreciated.
A tremendous thank you to our support network that surrounded us with food, love, cards and kindnesses; every gesture meant a great deal to Blake. He was humbled by your thoughtfulness.
(Some day when the pages of my life end, I know that my short time with Blake will have been one of its most beautiful chapters. Always my love, S)
