Passed away on Thursday October 28, 2021 at Grand River Hospital at the age of 54.

Beloved husband of Trudy. Loving step-father of Joe (Mary Ann). Dear brother of Patti (Dan),
John and Albert. Cherished uncle of Ashley. Dearest son-in-law of Patrick and Bobbie. Brother-in-law of Debbie (Dennis), Bernie (Meri) and Roberta (Phil). Proud and doting Grampy of Nadine.

Predeceased by his mother Patricia Rutt, by his sister Colleen and by his twin brother Jimmy.

Joey was a locksmith by trade and a jack of all trades in life. His positive outlook and stubborn perseverance through tough times was greatly admired by those closest to him. His playful taunting of those he loved always left us with a smile on our faces, even if we were also rolling our eyes! He will be sadly missed by his Onward Hardware family, where he worked in customer service for eight years. He enjoyed cooking, woodworking and spending time with his family and friends. He especially cherished the times spent with his only grandchild, Nadine.

Cremation has taken place. A private family celebration of life will take place Saturday Nov 6,
2021 as well as private arrangements in Québec.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to Crohn’s & Colitis Canada or the Heart and Stroke Foundation as expressions of sympathy.

Messages and condolences may be left for the family at www.tricitycremations.com or
519.772.1237. Please  visit Joey's obituary notice on Facebook.

Joe was such a warm kind loving person with the biggest heart of anyone I've known. I will truely miss his practicle jokes an his playful personality. He once told me I was like a brother to him, that meant the world to me. Rest easy Joe and thank you for your friendship. 🍻

When Joe wasn't calling me "tiny" or "blue eyes" or hilariously, meticulously applying his hand sanitizer (even before the pandemic!), he was always there to help with his vast product knowledge, and expertise, as well as his willingness and genuine kindness to share his knowledge to help you. My sincerest sympathies to Trudy, Joe, Nadine and family. He truly loved all of you so deeply, and spoke of you all often, in our "cool corner". Rest easy, friend.

Joe was the energy and light at Onward and a valuable part of the CS team. He will be remembered for his sense of humour, kindness, jokes, and his home cooked meals that he was always eager to share with the team. I will miss our chats and your teases. To Trudy and Jo and all the family and friends. Joey will be truly missed by me as for many .Joey and I grew up together as we were cousins. I remember when we were young at high school , he used to hide around the corner and jump out and poke me in the stomach , drove me crazy but he got a kick out out it. We used to go biking a lot and go for pogo's at our favourite hot-dog joint or hang out with his brother's Jimmy and Albert at the local arcade , spent lots of time with friends there. Joey , Jimmy and I all worked together for a hardware distributor in the mid 80's . We had lots of fun working together . I started teaching Joey the locksmith trade . One day I took some locks apart and dumped them all over the tables, then asked him , ok, now put them back together , well he did ( swore a few words at me ,LOL ) but he was very quick to learn . Years later we worked together again , in hardware as well. We loved working together . We used to meet up with friends Friday -Saturday nights at our favourite watering hole , Cheers in Montreal , man we had some great times there. We were living far apart but kept in touch with each other from time to time either by phone or email. We were making plans to get together in the spring of 2022 , We always said soon , one day , etc. Well we should have but didn't take the time to get together . He was a great guy , my pal , my cousin , my buddy . He will be really missed beyond words . Rest in peace Joey , say hi to everyone for me on the other side and I will be have a drink for you buddy .

My deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences are offered to the family and all friends. Joe was a fantastic and loyal friend and I miss him dearly.
He regularly checked in on me each day to see how I was doing, often saying that he was worried about me and that I should just relax. That was Joe, always worried about others and wanting to make things better. Never worried about himself. He was always quick to make a joke or get a little dig in somewhere. He also invented little pet names for everybody that he encountered, some good and some not so much lol. Joe, Trudy and I had so much fun on our little dinner dates once a week, almost always with some amazing gourmet creation. Well Joe...Trudy and I will still be getting together, hopefully every week, but now we have no choice but to ORDER IN!!!! I also enjoyed having what seemed like a personal chef that created amazing lunches and offered helpful hints in my own cooking adventures. I guess it's back to leftovers for Trudy and I :)
Joe truly enriched the lives of everyone that he met in one way or another and will greatly be missed by all.
RIP Joe. We will meet again one day.

My deepest condolences to Trudy and the family. Joe was an amazing friend he always did check in on everyone and made sure to call first thing every morning. I miss that. He also like to tease me of course because I hated it and told him every time but now I miss it. Work life won’t be the same without you. You sure made a mark on everyone that crossed your path. They say people pass through your life for a reason a season or a lifetime. I’m sure glad you passed through mine. I miss you terribly but no worries Joey I will look out for Trudy and Merlin.
RIP my friend. You won’t be forgotten.
La Vielle.

To my little brother - albeit time is passing, sometimes slowly sometimes too quickly but the sadness of losing you too soon, suddenly and following your beloved twin brother, has been at times too much to bear. I miss you - your big sister will always miss you. How lucky we all were that we shared this life together - if the after life does exist then you are surrounded by Mom, Cubby and your twin - if another life is ahead, lucky the family who will have you as a brother. Watch over us brother and know that you were loved and will always be loved.
