1950 - 2021

With great sadness we announce Karen’s passing from abdominal cancer on September 22, 2021 at the Hospice of Waterloo Region.  Karen will be lovingly remembered by her husband  Alan and sorely missed by her sisters, Judy Carter (Jeff) of Winnipeg, Dianne Varga (Dave) of Calgary and Janice Daly (Sean) of Yellowknife, by her brother Terry Brown (Kris) of Calgary, and her sister-in-law Gail Anderson (Lorne) of Kanata.  Karen was a special aunt to Jonathan Carter, Jennifer Carter, Kieran Daly and Seamus Daly.

Karen’s family would like to express their appreciation for the love and concern shown by many friends across Canada, and especially by her life-long friends, the McCloy family of Kingston, Ontario.

Karen had a long career at Mutual Life/Clarica/Sun Life.

Cremation has taken place.  Interment will be at a later date at a family plot in Winnipeg.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hospice of Waterloo Region’s Let Love Bloom campaign or the charity of your choice.

We love you dearly, Karen.

Karen's quiet, accepting strength and her loving friendship will be treaured always. Our family have had the sustaining joy of friendship with Alan and Karen for over 50 years. Visits were always happy times, full of laughter, good food and a delicious bottle of wine- compliments of their wine cellar. Our prayers are with you at this most painful time, Alan. Please let us be the strong shoulders you lean on.

Uncle Alan,

Sending love and support your way. I feel a piece of your heartbreak in my heart too. I shed tears because she is now gone and I also smile remembering her way of being. She was kind, she listened and showed so much love and interest in my life, she loved to laugh and travel and she has been so generous and thoughtful throughout my whole life. I cherish the memories and move forward with my life, understanding that Auntie Karen was a wonderful person to know and I am lucky to have had that opportunity.

So much love,
Laura

Alan - I am so sorry for your loss. It broke my heart to hear about Karen today. She was one of the best people to work with. I am so lucky that we worked together all those years, and that we were able to enjoy good food, good travel stories and of course, good wine together. Take care, Amy

We are deeply sadden by the passing of Karen and will miss her dearly. Visits will not be the same. But we will always remember her beautiful smile and how she made us feel so wonderful. What a blessing to know her and if we could all strive to live a little more like Karen, what a difference it would make to our world. We will remember her by trying to be this wonderful presence she exuded each new day. With love & light, Kerry, Adam, Liam and Tate
