It is with great sorrow that we, the family, announce the passing of Donald (Don)James Leonard. Surrounded by members of his loving family, he passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 9th, 2019 at the age of 71, losing his battle with Cancer.
Born in Newfoundland and raised on Bell Island until he moved to Toronto, then Cambridge and then settled in Kitchener, Ontario, where he worked for many years until his retirement. He enjoyed his passion of many different things and pleasures with family and friends. His love of sports; Hockey (Leafs), Baseball (Jays), and Basketball (Raptors) and we can’t forget about his love of Old Cars (his 1964 1/2 MUSTANG) and Drag Races on Young Street.
He could strike up a conversation with anyone and tell stories of the past for hours and we all would sit listening, smiling, laughing and just enjoying the moment. Donald lived a simple life, a great life. He loved every moment of it. Don hated no one and loved everyone, He filled everyone around him with smiles, laughter, joy and love. Donald will be missed and remembered by many.
Loving and devoted husband of Susan Leonard (nee Legge) Cherished father of his daughters LeeAnn Leonard (Little One), Kelly Power (Mike) and of his son Jeff Leonard (Cristy) His legacy will be fondly remembered by his many grandchildren and his two great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Rob, Ron, Peggy and Elaine. Predeceased by his parents Frank and Margaret (Pynn) Leonard, by his brother Frank and his Sister Alice.
At Don’s request, there will be no visitation or service. Cremation has taken place. A private family burial will take place where Donald will be brought home to rest in Bell Island, Newfoundland.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, November 21st, 2019 from 5 - 8pm at Galtview Restaurant, 693 Coronation Blvd., Cambridge, Ontario.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Don may be made to Grand River Regional Cancer Centre.
