Picture
Passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer on Sunday, November 6, 2022 at the age of 65 years, surrounded by loved ones and those who held her in their hearts.

Loving and cherished mother of Rachel Ruston (Sam Tamman). Dear sister of Terry Pettigrew (Tom Pettigrew) and Tim Flewelling, as well as loving Aunt to Derek Pettigrew (Susan) and Neil Pettigrew (Therese). She is predeceased by her parents, Sam and Kay Flewelling, as well as her brothers Neil, Ossie, and Charles Flewelling.

Lynn was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick and raised in the Village of Gagetown. She always believed in the power of education and therefore spent many years of her life attending different post-secondary institutions, including New Brunswick Community College (Administrative Professional Diploma), the University of New Brunswick (Bachelor of Science, Biology and Chemistry), Western University (Doctor of Dental Surgery, DDS), and the Atlantic School of Therapeutic Massage where she retrained as a Registered Massage Therapist. She instilled this belief in her daughter, Rachel, who earned her own degrees at Wilfrid Laurier University (Bachelor of Arts, Psychology and Master of Education, Student Affairs) and pursued post-secondary education as a career.

Many of Lynn’s favourite memories were with patients and clients as both an owner and dentist at Applewood Dental Centre (Waterloo, ON), and as a massage therapist at Massage Addict (Fredericton, NB and Waterloo, ON) and The Waters Spa (Waterloo, ON). Both of her career paths were in the helping profession because she was guided by her empathy and compassion for others. She loved building relationships with her peers and clients, maintaining many of those friendships throughout her life.

Lynn retired in January 2021 from massage therapy, which allowed her to spend more time doing the things she loved such as, walking Sophie (the family dog) outside in nature, reading a book or five all at once, utilizing her creativity through macrame, quilting, or knitting, having a cold beer on a sunny patio, and sipping coffee on the front porch while listening to true crime stories. Most importantly, after her retirement, she was able to spend more time with friends and family, whether that was going for brunch at her favourite restaurant in St. Jacob’s, Jack’s; visiting loved ones across Canada in Quebec, New Brunswick, and British Columbia; or spending time chatting and laughing with her son-in-law, Sam, and the pride and joy of her life, her daughter, Rachel.

Weeks before Lynn passed away, she was able to celebrate the marriage of Rachel and Sam on October 12, 2022 – After living with Rachel and Sam in their home through most of the pandemic and the year following her diagnosis, this day was a highlight of her life and a day that will always be remembered by her daughter.

Cremation will take place. A Celebration of Life will be held by the family at a later date.

Donations may be made to Pancreatic Cancer Canada, the Lisaard House or your local Food Bank, in honour of Lynn’s constant generosity to those who needed help the most.

Messages may be left for the family at www.trictycremations.com or 519.772.1237. Please visit Lynn's obituary notice on Facebook.

Rachel and Sam: I am so very sorry for your loss of Lynn. Lynn was our UNB classmate, our study partner, our proofreader, our dentist, our collaborator with whom to explore restaurants, our road-trip companion, and most importantly, our Friend. Thank you for sharing Lynn with each of us. To this end, we share in your loss and grief.

A tragic loss. Lot’s of good memories of Lynn when we went to UNB together, to kids from a small village with big plans for our futures. I was lucky to have Lynn as a friend, she was always there to help, always up to having a good time and we had many a good laugh.

So sorry for your loss. I was Lynn’s first cousin. Although I didn’t know Lynn very well I could tell she was a very special person with her infectious smile that would make a person feel good. Our sincere sympathy.

Rachel and Sam. Lynn and I shared some wonderful times together while she attended Western University. Despite busy schedules and little money, we found a way to take equestrian lessons. I regret that we lost touch over the years. Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss.

I am saddened to hear of Lynn’s passing. Our little village of Gagetown produced many brilliant, accomplished people and Lynn was certainly one of them. Sincere condolences to her family, Terry and Tim.

Lynn was a classmate of mine when we were studying Chemistry at UNB. She was a part of a very special and tight knit group that was very much like family. She was one of the kindest persons I have known. I have not seen Lynn since University, but I have fond memories of her that will last my lifetime.

I am so sorry to hear of Lynn's passing. Lynn was my dentist for many years. She was a skilled dentist who was an intuitive healer. I loved going to her because each visit was funny and full of joy. Unusual for any dentist of the time. She was a joy to know. I will always remember her.

I'm so sad to learn of Lynn's passing. We were part of a group of very close friends in our Bio-Chem undergrad days at UNB. We kept in touch for a number of years after graduation, then busy lives moved us all in different directions. I have such fond memories of time spent with Lynn, and offer deepest condolences to her family.

I am saddened at the passing of Lynn Flewelling.
Both Lynns (Flewelling and Pomeroy) showed up in my lab to invite me to her class get-together. After that invite, I became friends with all of their classmates. There was regular visit, long good conversations and fun and lively class parties which are memorable. I am very thankful to both Lynns for some treasured memories, for friends made and for making of my time at UNB enjoyable. Lynn Flewelling, her classmates and I were on several road trips and dinner invites after UNB. So, it was a shock to hear of passing of Lynn, in light that we were supposed to meet in Cambridge with Kent, but the pandemic came.

To hear your hearty, lusty laugh, to see that bright, electric smile, and to hear your insightful thoughts have been sorely missed.

Though we were in the same classes in Oromocto High, our families met 25 years later, ironically, back in New Brunswick. Lynn, a successful, caring dentist in Kitchener, was awe-inspiring. I will always thank Lynn for a better future. She encouraged me to return to university and finish my teaching degree. Lynn, kept cheering me on.

Later, as we became elders, in your case a sage, our lunches kept us going. We laughed, shared stories of joy, and sorrow. We discussed psychology, philosophy, spiritualism and religion. Of course, the conversations always turned to our children.

Lynn and Rachel share a tremendous capacity for love. Their devotion, was one of the fiercest mother-daughter bonds, our family saw, first hand.

When Rachel was an older child, she wanted to go camping. Do you think losing sight in one eye would stop our force of nature? No. Lynn bought a camper trailer, and camping they did go - throughout Nova Scotia. What an adventure, together.

This powerful bond is what sustained Lynn through her brightest and darkest times. It kept her moving forward. Thank you, Rachel for such a potent gift.

Your light has left us, and gratefully, we have the gifts you gave each of us.
