Maarit Isolehto (nee Juntunen) passed away at home, surrounded by the love of her family, on Tuesday November 12, 2019 at the age of 65 years.

Maarit was a long time Bus Driver with Grand River Transit.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandsons. She was an outdoors individual who could often be found out for walks, working in the gardens or enjoying the countryside of Finland in the summers.

She is lovingly cherished by her daughter, Heli Isolehto (Stephan Maia) and their children, Leo (5) and Felix (3) Maia, and by her son Mika Isolehto (Veronique Roussel) and by their father, Ahti Isolehto. Dear sister of Jukka Juntunen, Timo Juntunen and by the late Riku Juntunen. Predeceased by her parents, Jenni and Leo Juntunen.

After a brief battle with ALS, it was at her request to donate her body to the University of Western Ontario Research, as her way to help and continue her fight against ALS.

Donations may be made to the ALS Society of Canada as expressions of sympathy.

Messages and condolences may be left for the family at www.tricitycremations.com or 519.772.1237. Please visit  Maarit's obituary notice on Facebook.

My condolences to her family. Maarit was always such a pleasure to talk with at work. We had a number of discussion about her homeland and the beauty of Finland certainly showed through her words.
May she find everlasting peace and comfort as she rests now in the arms of the angels:((

My condolences to the family. I was a fellow driver and had many times taking over the bus from Maarit and her leaving with a good laugh or a quick snicker!! We had a quick tear on her last day of work for retirement. She will be missed .

I always enjoyed her sense of humour and the jokes we shared at work. Her smile was always an indication of an oncoming dig or joke.
Rest easy Maarit, you will be missed.

Maarit was a very special lady to work with. I have memories of her that I will always keep. Retirement meant spending time with family. I'm glad that she got some time in for that, obviously not near enough though. Maarit will be missed. My condolences to family and friends.

I have very fond memories of Maarit. We had many long conversations about many things, mostly family. It was clear she loved her family dearly, and was so proud of them. We have all been blessed to have known her. It's just like her to give all she could, as one of her last requests, to help others.

My deepest condolences to Heli and family.
Maarit was my first cousin. When we were children we were neighbours and our childhood homes are still there. We were happily playing together.
After Maarit moved to Canada we did not meet so often but sending letters and Christmas cards regulary.
After we both retired, accidentally same day 19th of December 2016 we met every summer.
We did spend lovely times together. Maarit baked Barley bread almost everyday so we enjoyed bread with coffee.
We were driving around to see our relatives, went to sauna and swimming in the lake, picking berries and enjoyed each others company.
It was always sad day when Maarit left back to Canada.
Her childhood home looked so empy and sad this summer when she was not able to come there anymore.
Maarit loved her grandchildren Leo and Felix very much. She was talking of them a lot which was very nice.
I miss Maarit enormously. Rest in peace my dear friend. ❤️

Sincere condolences to all of you. I know you will miss Maarit keenly. I will always remember Maarit for kindness to me at GRT as we worked together. Her joyous laughter, quick wit and ability to kindly reprimand, was always wrapped with sincerity. May your memories bring smiles and comfort at this time.

Et ole ikiunessa, et ole poissa,

olet tuhat tuulta puistikoissa,

olet valon välke aallokossa,

olet timantti hankien loistossa.

Et ole jättänyt meitä, et ole vaiti,

olet lintujen laulu taivaalla,

olet kuiskaus viljapellolla,

olet henkäys rakkaasi poskella.

Sisaren tytärtä ja serkkua lämmöllä muistaen.
