Passed away on  Jan. 25, 2021, at Freeport Campus GrandRiver Hospital.

Beloved husband of Wendy Doherty (nee Larone). Predeceased by his father Richard Henry Doherty in 1966, mother Mary Phyllis Doherty in 2002, brother Peter Doherty and his youngest son Richard in 2005. Cherished father to Tiffany (Paul), Grant, Nicole Hoff, Nathan (Shannon). Dear grandfather to Mackenzie, Carleigh, Lucas and Reese. Martin will be sadly missed by his brothers Phillip (Mary), Cameron (Erma) and his sister Susan (Morley)
as well as his in-laws Bill, Shirley, Deena, Tom and Jill.
 
Owner of Auriga kennel Martin enjoyed a life-time passion for pure bred dogs with a successful career as an All Breed judge, as well as exhibiting and breeding his beloved Old English Sheepdogs and PBGV.

There will not be a funeral service but a private internment at a later date.
 
For those who wish to honour Martin’s memory donations to the GrandRiver Hospital Foundation or Dying with Dignity.
 
A special thanks of gratitude to Martin’s staff of GrandRiver Terrace 2 for all their support and excellent care.

Dearest Martin, thank you for your friendship and mentoring you gave me so unselfishly and a true love for your beloved Old English Sheepdog.
Wendy your love and devotion were unwavering, a testament to the beautiful relationship you had.

My sincere condolences to you and your family Wendy. I worked with Martin during the Thomson newspaper days. I have lots of fond memories of Martin and all his visits to the Guelph Daily Mercury ! Always a smile on his face.

Martin was one of the 'good guys' working for Thomson Newspapers, well respected and liked by all. And and much as he enjoyed his work in circulation, we all knew his favourite 'work' was with his dogs. RIP.

Brad and I were trying to contact you and Martin when I came upon this tragic and very sad news. Our deepest sympathies to you Wendy and your family. I am shocked and saddened to have heard this.
