Devoted sister to Frank (Joyce), Mary is now reunited with her parents Nicholas and Veronica Geng, brothers Albert (Jane) and Norman (Carol), and her beloved sister Agnes Dever.
Mary was a bold and inspirational female role model to her nieces Lori Geng, and Mary (John), Marty (Ryan), and Kathryn (Michael) Dever. Mary is also remembered by her nephew Michael Dever and his daughters Andrea and Sarah.
Mary's life was long and interesting. Born in Russia, she created a good life in Canada. The majority of her career was at defense company Raytheon, where she was one of the first women globally to work in contracts administration and management. In retirement, she worked for several years at Tim Hortons, and was a lifelong fan of their coffee. Mary was an active and dedicated volunteer who shared her time with Grand River Hospital for close to two decades, until late 2017.
Mary loved the warmth of the sun and followed it south multiple times, with a special fondness for Barbados. Her nieces and nephew fondly remember her savouring the family's cottage time on Lake Huron, where she spent every possible moment of daylight on the sand, perfecting her tan.
Mary's family is grateful to the exceptional ICU team at Grand River Hospital, particularly nurses Suma and Marie, and Dr. Nethercott, for their leadership, guidance, and care at the end of Mary's life. Thanks also to the staff at Chartwell Westmount, for their thoughtful attention to Mary’s needs since April.
Mary requested cremation and a small family memorial service, which have taken place. To honour her memory and recognize her committed volunteer service, please consider a donation to the Grand River Hospital Foundation.
