Passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family on Sunday October 17, 2021 in Hospice, Waterloo at the age of 58 years.
Beloved Husband of Beth (nee Jones), Cherished Father of Jillian, Nathan, Emily and Benjamin. Loving Son of Jean Cherry (nee McColl). Dear Brother of David (Vicki) and Scott (Val ) ; Treasured Son-in-law of Floyd and Mary Jones. Predeceased by his father William Cherry.
Neil had a passion for computer programming which spanned 40+ years. In 2014, he joined CareHawk Safety Communications, and became not only a valued team member, but a part of their family. Neil shared an analytical mind (and HOCKEY) with his youngest son, Ben, who hopes to follow in his father’s footsteps with programming. If computers were a professional passion, then cooking was definitely a personal passion for Neil. If you were lucky enough to taste one of his ideas come to fruition, then you were hooked and left waiting in eager anticipation for the next get together. Both his creative inspiration and his love for sharing a meal, have been instilled in both his daughters, Jillian and Emily, through countless practice sessions over the years. Clean up NOT included. Adoration for a particular car, a 1977 Austin Mini, was shared with his oldest son, Nathan. That particular Mini had been in Neil’s possession for 40 or so years. To see the smiles on both Neil and Nathan's faces during that last ride together was topped only by Neil’s “let’s go round again!”
Neil was a paradox, both a man of few words and sometimes of many. He was a strong, smart
and funny man who loved his family more than he would ever say. He could walk into a room and talk to anyone, especially when beer was involved, but not because of it. He will be remembered for his genuine easy going nature, kind heart and tremendous sense of humour, as well as many ridiculous antics over the 25 years he spent with the love of his life, his wife, Beth.
His loss will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring of 2022.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society (supporting Colon Cancer Research) as expressions of sympathy, would be appreciated by the family.
