She was born on January 24th, 1932 in Hamilton, Ontario. She moved from Hamilton to Waterloo in 2014 to be closer to family members. She lived in her own apartment until June 2022 when she moved into Terrace on the Square, a retirement residence.
She felt quite well and was grateful for her good health up until late fall of 2021 when she began to feel unusually fatigued. She developed localized weakness in her left arm in January and when this was investigated she was discovered to have lung cancer with spread to her brain. She was able to do most normal daily activities up until 2 days before admission to Grand River Hospital on July 24th, when she developed profound weakness that resulted in a fall and she was transferred to Emergency at GRH. In hospital she deteriorated rapidly from the cancer and died 2 days later.
She was a very active member of the Hamilton Unitarian Church from the 1950’s and had many friends there. She developed many new friends when she moved to Kitchener and joined the Grand River Unitarian Congregation. After her husband Martin died in 1992 her life centred around activities with her friends and family. She was well liked by many. She was known for sending very appropriate and thoughtful cards and notes to many people. She was concerned about the welfare of others locally and worldwide and she supported many charities. She enjoyed singing and sang in the choir in both churches as well as in community choirs.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday August 27th at 2 pm at Grand River Unitarian Congregation, 299 Sydney St. in Kitchener. Masks will be required for attendance.
