Russell passed away peacefully on July 24th at Lisaard House surrounded by family.

Loving husband of 45 years to Jan (née Middleton). Father of Chandra (Peter Lewis) and Elizabeth (Adam Cook). Cherished brother of Alison (Jim Rodger), Roslyn (David Thom) and Philip (Annie Fortier). Russell was a proud and loving grandfather/ "Papa Bear" to Kieran (3) and Adelyn (1). He was predeceased by his parents Philip (Bill) and Sylvia (née Ferris) Engs.

For over thirty years Russell was an inspiring and respected member of the Science Department at Glenview Park Secondary School and enjoyed directing the school’s jazz band.

In his retirement, he played trumpet in the Galt Kiltie Band with his wife and daughter. Russell loved music, boating on Lake Ontario, travelling the world with Jan, going on cruises, fast cars, fine wine, scotch, and spending time with his family.

A private Celebration of Life will be held in the fall. He will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Lisaard House (lisaardandinnisfree.com/support-us/) would be greatly appreciated.

Back in the early 1980s I played with Russ in the K-W Jazz Ensemble, conducted by Mrs. Engs (it still doesn't feel right to call my high school music teacher by her first name). Russ was a good trumpet player and a good guy. My condolences to his family.

My sincere condolences to Mrs. Engs and family. Mr. Engs would sometimes come to Southwood when I was a student there in the early 80's and Jan was the music teacher. The past few years we would often see them at concerts at Glenview where my kids were very involved in the music program.

My sincerest condolences to Mrs. Engs and all of Mr. Engs' family, friends, and loved ones. I was a student at Glenview in the early 90s and have fond memories of Mr. Engs' Science classes. He was one of the GPSS staff that inspired me on my own journey to become a teacher. I hope that the memories he made with you will guide you through the sorrow of his loss. May those memories find their way in to your mind when you most need them and bring you some comfort and joy.

Jan and Family... I am saddened to hear of Russ' passing. I fondly remember his jovial laugh while working for him at North End Radiator Service. I remember him calling one day after having a glass of scotch or two and asking for one of us to come get him at the Legion downtown. Immediately I jumped at the opportunity because I knew he had his orange Vette... the one and only time he let me drive it. My sincere condolences Jan...
