Wayne was on the funniest coaches I ever had. He knew how to push you to your limit and get the best out of you.
He had a loud scary voice but we all knew that his bark was worse then his bite.
I always loved going upto KW when our daughter played hockey. I would bump into him at the rink and could always count on a big hug and “hey kid, how ya doing?”
Thanks for the memories Mr Francis!!

Wayne had a huge heart and was always approachable. He was the ying to many yangs and with Wayne you always felt that he was fair. He was a good listener and a great teacher. It's been a while since our paths crossed, but with an extremely heavy heart, from my family to all of Wayne's survivors, we are truly sorry for the loss of a great man. He will be fondly remembered. It's been four years since my Dad passed away. Sometimes it seems like it happened yesterday, sometimes forever ago. It's a cliche, but time does heal, the bad days will gradually get fewer & farther between. Just keep that in mind now, but also remember that the bad days becoming more scarce is not you forgetting your Dad, or turning your back on his memory, it's just the way we are wired, a defence mechanism that allows us to function. It's called "Life", I suppose. This is the quotation from Aeschylus that I read at my Dad's funeral. It provided me with some small comfort during that difficult time, hopefully it may do the same for you:

"He who learns must suffer. And even in our sleep pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God."

All thoughts & prayers & love from the Kuschnereits

My thoughts and prayers to Wayne's family. Wayne was a huge part of my life when I first immigrated to Canada and through my teen years. Not only was he the best figure skating coach to me but he was a father figure to me. He was such a positive impact on my life and I am forever grateful for everything he did for me and taught me.
RIP Wayne.

I also want to extend my sympathies to the family. Wayne will be missed in many ways by many people. I learned to know him as a fellow vendor at market and always enjoyed my interactions with him. I will treasure his memory. .

I was so sad to hear of Wayne's passing. I met Wayne (Mr. Francis to me) back when I was 13 or 14 years old when he began coaching me. He was a giant, with his long black coat and dark hair. He called me 'boss', and indeed, had a bark bigger than a bite. He was fun, kind, sincere and wouldn't tolerate hanging around the boards. Or else he'd get after you with his black gloves! In all my years with Wayne, he never got mad and always approached teaching with kindness and respect. A very strong role model in my life.
Blessing Wayne!

I had the good fortune of living with Wayne for the many years he studied skating under my mother (Ann Yeo). Because of this, I have always thought of Wayne as my big brother. I, therefore, feel like a family member has passed. And, although life caused us to lose touch, I will always be thankful for the fantastic years we had together. Wayne inspired me to be a better person.

Jean and I send our condolences to Heather and family.

I was honoured to have Wayne involved as an integral part of Rhapsody On Ice during its first few years, particularly as coach and great inspiration for the team. Wayne played a large role in Rhapsody's premier performance at the Brantford & District Civic Centre, Nov 16, 1985; our Skate For Life - Skate With The Stars Sport Aid event at the West Edmonton Mall ice rink, May 26, 1986; Rhapsody's 1986 Honolulu, Hawaii - Australia Tour (July 16 - August 6, 1986), and our preparation for Rhapsody's 1987 U.S.A. Tour, not to mention the many prior years of Wayne's involvement as coach as well as in other capacities at The Brant Figure Skating Club. I know I speak also for Andrea (Young) Thomson, one of the original Rhapsody On Ice team members, and former Brant Figure Skating Club member, in expressing our sorrow and condolences to Wayne's family.

Sincerely,

Neil & the Rhapsody On Ice Family.
