He will be remembered with affection by his wife Jane, son David, daughter Cathy and husband Bryan Jolly, daughter Jennifer and husband David Scott, beloved granddaughter Lauren Jolly and his four-legged buddy Cody; he was a dear brother to Doreen Groff and the late Laverne Hammer.
Bill was a teacher in Cambridge for most of his career. He taught mathematics at Southwood Secondary School until his "retirement". He then kept busy working at Beaver Lumber, Cashway and lastly, Rona. Clearly the hardware business was in his blood, just like his father who owned Hammer Hardware in Wellesley.
For many years Bill was actively involved as an executive with the Cambridge Terriers and then the Cambridge Winter Hawks. In his "younger years" he enjoyed playing hockey, but he also liked bowling and pitching horseshoes for which he received numerous trophies.
A special thanks to the staff of the Cambridge Memorial Hospital and Heritage Meadows for their loving care and support.
One of Bill's last wishes was that we hold a Celebration of Life in his honour; an informal gathering for family and friends.
Please drop by for this open-house event on Sunday, April 22nd, 2018, from 2-5 p.m. at "The Pines", 115 Fountain Street, Cambridge.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
