Ernest Grant Cooper
Ernest Grant Cooper of Kitchener, Ontario, died peacefully on June 9, 2025 at Lanark Heights Long-Term Care home in his 90th year.
Grant is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Lib (Elizabeth Robinson); his three children, Rob, Ruth, and Brian (Christine); six cherished grandchildren, Peter, Elizabeth, Sandra, Alexander, Jackson, and James; and three great-granddaughters, Eleanor, Kit, and Pippa. Survived by his sister Doreen Graham and sisters-in-law Joan Cooper (Murray) and Jean Cooper (Doug).
Grant was born in the small Northern Ontario mining town of Swastika. He was a small-town boy who became a citizen of the world, making friends in all of the many countries he and Lib visited. The two of them instilled a love of travel and a sense of curiosity in their entire family.
“Coop” was a dedicated and passionate high school teacher, first at Eastwood Collegiate (phys ed) and then Cameron Heights (fittingly, geography).
A skilled woodworker, Grant created projects ranging from children’s toys to furniture that will live on as reminders of his talent and passion.
The family thanks the staff of Lanark Heights for their compassion and attentiveness.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be greatly appreciated.
