Gordon Norman Payne

 1929  -  2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon on February 11, 2026 in his 97th year at The Village of Winston Park LTC.

Gord was born and raised in the City of Toronto to William James Payne and Irene Jesse Payne (nee Joyce) along with his older brother William Payne.
Gord eventually started a twenty year Police career with Toronto and Elmira Police Forces.

Gord met his first wife Virginia Alice Payne (nee Barr) in 1952 and they started to raise their six children in Toronto and Elmira. They were married for 58 years until Ginny as she was known, passed away in 2010.

Gord met his beloved wife Jeanette (Jan) Hutton in 2012 and they were blessed with over 13 years of marriage.

Gord  was very gregarious.  He loved telling his stories to anyone willing to listen to him and most of them were true.  He was enthralled with RV’s. He owned many and sold them on a part time basis.  He was excited whenever someone in his vicinity brought a broken item to him to fix.  He was very good  at it.

When Gord retired from Police work in Elmira he started a coffee vending and catering business called Country Squire Foods. The whole family had duties to perform in the business for 17 years. It was at this time Gord and Ginny started retirement and the rest of the family went on to their careers and family lives.
Gord and Ginny spent many months in Florida and Yuma Arizona before beginning another adventure by building a House in  the Mexican desert where they enjoyed their time with their dog Lucky.

Gord was the loving father of Barbara Mihm, Deceased 2025 (John), Ginny Ann Payne, Dianne Buick (Ron), Gord Payne (Martha), Linda Zieske(James), and Rick Payne.
Special Stepfather of Sean Moon (Kim) and Paul Moon (Laureen)

He was the cherished Grandfather of 10 and Step Grandfather of 2.

Also very blessed with 18 great Grandchildren to carry on his Legacy.

He was predeceased  by his parents, his brother William and his daughter Barbara.

In accordance with Gord’s wishes cremation has taken place.  A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday May 23,2026 at 2.00 pm at Grace Bible Church, Cambridge.  Please note, this is NOT  the 24th of May holiday weekend. Further details later.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Diabetes Canada or Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.

Messages and condolences for the family may be left in the comments box below.
