In Loving Memory of Hans-Herbert Kampe ("Opa")
December 6, 1943 - October 21, 2025 | Age 81
Hans-Herbert (Herb) Kampe, lovingly known as “Opa,” passed away peacefully at Innisfree House on Tuesday, October 21st, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family in his 82nd year.
Born in Eime, Germany, Herb was the beloved son of Eduard (Herbert) and Irmtraud Kampe, both of whom predeceased him. He was also predeceased by his sister Gisela. He is survived by his brother Manfred.
Opa attended trade school in Hannover, Germany, where he earned his certification as an Industrial Millwright. In 1975, he immigrated with his young family to Canada, Settling in Kitchener, Ontario. Pursuing the Canadian dream with courage and optimism.
Opa found joy and serenity in nature—his favorite places were those with lakes, mountains, fresh air, and peacefulness. Among these, Algonquin Park held a special place in his heart. It was there that he formed a deep connection with the Canadian Loon, whose presence brought him comfort and tranquility for many years.
Opa was a devoted husband to Doris, with whom he shared over 60 years of marriage. He was a proud and loving father to Connie (James) and Thorsten (Laura). His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Ashleigh (Rob), Madison (Dan), Chelsea (Cameron), Derik and his great granddaughter Emma.
Cremation has taken place. At his request, there will be no funeral or visitation.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Innisfree House, whose staff provided compassionate care and comfort in his final days.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Rosalyn Anne Juergens of the Juravinski Cancer Centre, whose phenomenal care and support over the past 7+ years meant the world to Opa and his loved ones.
We hope the view from “the lookout” is everything you want it to be, Opa.
