Laurel Ann Laking

1943 - 2026

Passed away peacefully at Sunnyside Home Long Term Care on September 24, 2026, in her 84th year.

Loving mother of Michael Laking (Susan), Carolyn Niebel (Paul DeVrieze).   Beloved sister to Sharon Palloway (Tom), and Mark Kitchen (Jess).  Cherished grandmother of Delaney Laking, Natasha Steffler (Mitch), Cassidy and Katie DeVrieze.  Great Grandmother of Maverick and Landon Steffler. Predeceased by her cherished husband Ron (2022) and by her parents Dudley and Irene Kitchen.

Laurel was a devoted employee of Firth Brown Tools for over 50 years. After retirement, she enjoyed being around family either celebrating a birthday or just gathering for dinner. She had a cheerful and giving spirit, which often included gifts of Reids chocolates. She made many trips to Myrtle Beach and back over the decades and loved seeing her Ontario friends at the Waikiki Village there every fall.  She was an avid follower of the Preston Scout House band, in which Ron played the swinging tenor drum, and together they attended many parades and events throughout Canada and the US with her "band friends". She always supported and cheered for her kids at whatever sport or activity they were involved in.  Her gentle, kind attitude will be missed by family and all those that knew her. 

Cremation has taken place. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. The family would like to express their many thanks to the staff at Sunnyside. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sunnyside Foundation or Parkinson Canada as expressions of sympathy.
