Liam Austin Curtin
1945 - 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Liam Austin Curtin on May 5th, 2025, in Cambridge, Ontario, at the age of 79.
Liam was born in Dublin, Ireland, one of seven children in a lively and loving family rooted in the rich traditions of their homeland. In 1969, driven by a spirit of adventure and a hope for a better life, he made the bold move to Canada. While Ireland always remained close to his heart, he proudly called Canada home.
Liam was a man of many talents—hardworking, resourceful, and determined. Over the years, he took on a variety of different careers, throwing himself into each with dedication and pride. But what truly set him apart was his warm personality. He loved a good laugh, a sharp joke, and a well-told story that could hold a room spellbound. His sense of humour and love of life left a lasting impression on everyone lucky enough to know him.
He was a devoted husband to Maris and a proud dad to Adele (Mike), Austin, and Liam Jr. (Sheri). He was also a caring stepfather, affectionately known as Pop, to Melissa (Denton), Anneka (Brad), and Freerk. Liam was a cherished Grandad to Stephanie, Kristen, Kelly, and Aiden, and a delighted Great-Grandad to Cole. Liam shared loving connections with his step-grandchildren—Dante, Jonas, Godfrey, Mayika, Brook-lyn and Autumn—who were an important part of his extended family.
Liam is survived by his siblings Tony, Ann, and Carmel, and will be dearly missed by his many nieces, nephews, and extended family. He now reunites with his parents, Patrick and Kathleen Curtin, and his siblings Pauline, Bernadette, and Patrick, who passed before him.
Liam loved his community and gave back generously. He served on the Executive of the Preston Legion Branch 126 and volunteered for many years with the Cambridge Highland Games. His friendships and community ties were a source of great pride and joy.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held in the coming weeks, where friends and family will gather to share stories, laughter, and memories of Liam—just the way he would have wanted.
Liam’s kindness, quick wit, and wonderful spirit will be remembered always. He was one of a kind, and we are all the better for having known and loved him.
