Russell Samuel John Abernethy

May 14, 1935 – July 10, 2025

With deep love and heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Russell Samuel John Abernethy on July 10, 2025, in his 91st year. A devoted husband, proud father, cherished grandfather, and great-grandfather, Russell’s life was defined by love, kindness, and integrity.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife Barbara (1998), with whom he shared many joyful years and raised three sons: Mark (Susan), Craig (Shelly), and Todd (Joanne). Russell was deeply proud of his family and found immense joy in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda, whose companionship brought joy, comfort, and a spirit of adventure to his later years. Together, they created lasting memories through their travels and shared experiences. Russell also held deep affection for his stepsons, Dave and Mark Fleetham, whom he embraced as family with open arms and a full heart.

Russell’s working life reflected his strong character - beginning as a skilled barber and later as a respected bus driver. He was also an active Shriner and Freemason, dedicating time to service, fellowship, and community support.

Russell's quick wit, steady presence, and deep care for others left a lasting impact. His values and devotion to family will continue to inspire all who knew him.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Stratford General Hospital for their outstanding care, and to Trish, Mary, and Leah from the cafeteria, for their friendship and kindness.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Stratford General Hospital or to Shriners Hospitals for Children Canada.

In keeping with Russell’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family gathering will be held at a later time to honor his memory.
