Ruth Mary Winegarden

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Ruth Mary Winegarden into the presence of the Lord at Cambridge Memorial Hospital on the morning of February 26, 2026. Born on September 19, 1934, at Bethesda Hospital in London, Ontario, Ruth was a beacon of love and kindness whose light shone brightly for nearly a century.

Ruth was the cherished daughter of Edith May (nee Baker) and Henry Clifton Hunter, who instilled in her the values of compassion and dedication that she carried throughout her life. These values were evident in her relationships with her beloved siblings, the late Norma Elaine, Enid Vivian (Victor), and Doreen Eloise (Arthur) who predeceased her.

A proud graduate of H.B. Beal Technical and Commercial High School, Ruth's academic excellence was celebrated when she was named valedictorian of her graduating class. Her proficiency and skill in stenography earned her numerous awards, and she embarked on her career in a steno pool in London, where her talents shone through.

In 1953, Ruth married Bill, and together they moved to Galt to build a beautiful life centered around family. Ruth and Bill's partnership was a testament to enduring love and commitment, and together they raised two wonderful children, Craig (Maryke) and Andrea (Jeff), who brought immense joy and pride to their lives.

Ruth's legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren, Megan, Anneke, Yolande, and Justin, and her great-grandchildren, Lyla and Juniper, who brought her endless happiness and laughter. Her nurturing spirit and boundless love were constants in their lives, creating a family united by deep bonds and Christian values.

Ruth found immense joy in her hobbies, whether she was whipping up delicious meals for her loved ones, sewing with precision and care, or getting lost in the pages of a good book. Her home was a haven of warmth and love, where friends like Janet and Ed, and neighbours such as Terry found companionship.

As a faithful servant of the Lord, Ruth was deeply involved in her church community, where she found solace and strength, and shared her unwavering kindness with all. Her life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to family and friends.

Ruth leaves behind a loving family, including her brother in law Gary (Donna), sister in law Diane dec. (Riley), nieces and nephews, Ron (Loretta), Susan dec., Rick (Estelle), Nancy (Keith), Kathy dec. (Bert), Jim (Linda), Peter (Cindy), and Nancy (Ron), Laurie dec., Neil (Serena), Lyndsay, Karen, Liane, Kris (Scott), and Beth all of whom she cherished dearly.

Ruth Mary Winegarden's life was a tapestry of love, dedication, and joy. She touched the hearts of all who knew her, and her legacy will continue to inspire those she leaves behind. In remembering Ruth, we celebrate a life that was rich in love and filled with cherished memories.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Cambridge Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care during Ruth's final days. A memorial service will be held to honour Ruth's life at a later date.

Ruth is finally home with her beloved Saviour, and her spirit of love will forever be a guiding light in our hearts.
