Tiemie Devries

January 27, 1940 – March 16, 2026

“Real love stories never have endings.” - Richard Bach

It is with profound sadness and great love that we mourn the passing of Tiemie at Sunnyside Long Term Care Home, Kitchener, on Monday March 16th, 2026, at the age of 86.

Tiemie was born on January 27, 1940, in Winterswijk, Netherlands where she graduated and became a registered nurse serving her community.  Upon immigrating to Canada in 1965, she met and married the love of her life and best friend John and raised their two children John Martin and Rita Elizabeth.

Tiemie was known for her crinkling of the nose smile, kind spirit and her unwavering faith.  She dedicated her life to her family and children serving as the heart of her home.  Her greatest joys and accomplishments were the love of her husband John and the gift of being a Mom to John Martin and Rita Elizabeth.

Tiemie was a big personality in a small package. She had an impact on each person she interacted with. She was courageous, inspirational, kind, loving, funny, full of joy and a ball of fire that showed us what can be accomplished with determination and persistence.

She was known as a huge fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and the Toronto Maple Leafs and loved watching the games.

Tiemie will be lovingly remembered by her beloved husband John, her children, John Martin (Erin) and Rita, her cherished grandchildren, Taylor, Maddison, Noah, Rilee, Connor (Beth), Dyllan and Emma, dear sister of Annie (Roel) and Pieter (Tineke).  She is joined in rest by her mother Tiementje, her father Pieter, and her predeceased siblings, Gees, Riek, Machiel, Wieger and Wessel.

The family wishes to extend their deepest appreciation for the wonderful angels on the Riverside floor at Sunnyside Long Term Care Home for their dedication, care and compassion while caring for Tiemie and their continued care of John.

Cremation has taken place.  A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Arthritis Society as expressions of sympathy.
