July 18, 1946 – July 20, 2016

With deep sadness and heavy hearts, we announce that Merv’s life journey ended on July 20, 2016, in Cambridge, and that Alzheimer disease no longer controls his destiny.

He leaves behind his loving, devoted wife of 47 years, Karen, and first born cherished son, Michael. He was a very proud Papa of his Granddaughter, Jasmine Dill. Also, he leaves his brother, Rodney (Patricia) Dill; Mother-in-law, Rose Rivers; Brothers-in-law, Robert Rivers and Warren (Carolyn) Rivers; Sister-in-law, Judy Rivers, as well as extended family of nephews and nieces. Merv was predeceased by our beloved son, Ryan in April of 1982; his Father, Edward in October, 2005 and Mother, Adeline in September 2010.

He was born in County Antrim in Northern Ireland and came to Canada with his family, by ship across the Atlantic, in July of 1964. He met his wife Karen in April of 1965 and they married June 21, 1969. Merv had a long and satisfying banking and financial planning career, retiring in May of 2007.

At Merv’s request, his remains have been cremated and an invitation will be extended at a later date to attend a Life Celebration/Irish Wake in his honor.

For anyone wishing to make a donation in his memory, it is respectfully requested that it be given to either Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto or the Alzheimer Society of Waterloo Wellington.
