Terry Hayashida (nee Tsuyuki)   passed away peacefully in her 82nd year at her home in Waterloo, Ontario,  due to  deterioration from Parkinson’s Disease.

Loving and devoted wife and beloved mother, she is survived by her husband of 58 years, Kaye and her children Peter (& Catherine), David (& Linda), Charissa, John Paul (& Sandra) and her grandchildren Matthew, Katie & Sarah.  Terry was born in Port Haney, B.C. to Itaro and Kimiko Tsuyuki. She is survived by her dear sister Tammy, and siblings George & Bev, and predeceased by Ann.

Her family was among the 22,000 casualties of the injustice and racism toward Japanese-Canadians during WWII. Forcibly removed and incarcerated, their livelihoods destroyed and all their property & belongings confiscated, the effects were devastating and their peaceful lives were changed forever. Imprisoned in the Lemon Creek Japanese-Canadian concentration camp  and losing her mother as a child, Terry  had a difficult early life, but  her great intelligence, insight, creativity, common sense and resilience allowed her to create a strong foundation for her husband and family. Also, despite enduring more than 30 years of Parkinson’s treatments, she managed to maintain her dignity and sense of humour, as well as her interests in life, travel and favourite activities such as, craft-work, cooking, baking, fishing and berry picking. She continued to enjoy her trips to Newfoundland and Hawaii into her final year as well as the simple pleasures of a good meal, a game of cards or the chance of winning the lottery. Her kind and gentle spirit, her dedication to her family, and her exceptional talents will be  forever  remembered and  greatly missed.

Her family would  also like to express  their  heartfelt gratitude for the  warmth,  kindness and caring of the remarkable people who assisted Terry during her long battle with Parkinson's, particularly Miriam & Marie, and most especially Cherryhme,  her indispensable live-in caregiver over the past 6 years.

Cremation has taken place at Terry’s request.  The family will hold a private gathering in celebration of her life.

As an expression of sympathy, the family would suggestion that in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to the Parkinson’s Society of Canada or any charity of your choosing are appreciated.
