Donald Graham Otto

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Donald Graham Otto on March 9, 2026 at the age of 90, after fighting a relentless battle against Lewy Body Dementia. He did this with immense dignity, strength and all the while maintaining his sense of humour.

Don was predeceased by the love of his life and soulmate Patricia in 2019, and his son Jeffrey in 2024. He will be deeply missed by his daughter Susan Currie (Scott), his cherished grandchildren Brett & Bradley, and his adored great grandson Damian. He also leaves behind his brother Dennis (Gail), sister-in-law Wanda Morrison, brother-in-law Danny Morrison (Nelly), along with nieces, nephews and cousins.

Don was born in Hardisty Alberta, growing up in Amisk & Edmonton. He then moved to Ontario with his family when he was offered the position of General Manager with Russell Food Equipment. After many successful years in the restaurant equipment industry, Don followed his entrepreneurial spirit and founded his own business, Otto Food Services Equipment in Mississauga.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Don was a die-hard fan of the Edmonton Elks (Eskimos), the Edmonton Oilers and the Toronto Blue Jays.  His annual Grey Cup parties became a cherished tradition among family and friends, where friendly wagers had Don always placing bets on the team from the West. Don spent countless hours at the Dixie Curling Club where he & Pat formed many lifelong friendships.  He enjoyed golf, especially while living at Pike Lake where he proudly dropped two hole-in-ones, and took great pleasure in running the senior men’s golf league. Don loved spending time with friends and family, and gatherings with him were always filled with laughter, good stories and plenty of fun. He took great pride in volunteering with many organizations and even trying his hand as the ice maker of the Mount Forest Curling Club. Don was a loving husband, proud father and an incredible “Big Fella” to his grandsons.

Cremation has taken place, and a private inurnment will occur at a later date in Carstairs, Alberta, where Don will be laid to rest alongside his beloved Pat.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Wilson and the compassionate staff at Extendicare Stirling Heights in Cambridge for their care, kindness and dignity they showed Don, treating him like family and ensuring he was at peace.
