With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Gary MacIntosh, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
Gary was the true definition of a fighter. Throughout his life, he faced an extraordinary battle with a complex heart condition, enduring a record number of cardiac surgeries with remarkable courage, determination, and resilience. Time and again, he overcame incredible odds, doing absolutely everything he could to stay with the people he loved for as long as he possibly could. His strength inspired everyone who knew him, and his unwavering will to keep fighting was a testament to the deep love he had for his family.
He was the beloved husband of Elaine (Cooper) MacIntosh and a proud and loving father to Michele Gilman (David) and Steph DaSilva (Fil). His greatest joy in life was being "Grandpa" to his treasured grandchildren, Addison, Reid, Elliana, and Sebastian. They were the light of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He also leaves behind his faithful companion, Lucy, who brought him comfort and unconditional love.
Gary leaves behind his brother Richard (Pat) MacIntosh and his sister Lynne (Grant) Clatworthy. He was predeceased by his beloved parents, James and Betty (Salisbury) MacIntosh.
He will be deeply missed by his brothers- and sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
Words cannot adequately express our gratitude to the exceptional healthcare professionals who walked alongside Gary throughout his extensive health journey. We are forever thankful to the dedicated staff at St. Mary's Hospital for the compassionate care they provided over so many years.
A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Acosta and the entire Arrhythmia Clinic team, whose extraordinary care, compassion, and friendship meant so much to Gary and our family. We are deeply grateful to Dr. Mihajlovic for the kindness and dignity with which she cared for Gary during his final days. To the nurses and staff on CACU, thank you for the incredible compassion, respect, and outstanding care you showed him. Gary always felt safe in your hands, and that brought our family immeasurable comfort.
A very special thank you goes to Gary's niece, Stef Cooper. You are so much more than family—you were his advocate, his guide, and, as Gary often said, his own personal magician. You were always one step ahead, ensuring he received the very best care, finding solutions when things seemed impossible, and giving our family comfort through every challenge. We will forever be grateful for your unwavering love, dedication, and support.
Gary's life was defined not by the challenges he faced, but by the courage with which he faced them. He showed us what perseverance, hope, and unconditional love truly look like. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort knowing his legacy lives on in the family he adored and the countless lives he touched with his quiet strength, kindness, and unwavering devotion.
He fought with everything he had—not because it was easy, but because every extra day with his family was worth fighting for.
He will be deeply loved, forever missed, and never forgotten.
In leu of flowers, donations to WRHN @ Queen's Boulevard Cardiac Program are appreciated. A celebration of Gary's life will be held on July 26, 2026 at Rockway Golf Course ( 625 Rockway Dr, Kitchener) from 1-4pm.
