James “Jim” Douglas Hillis

Passed away peacefully at the Hospice of Waterloo Region on Monday, February 9, 2026

Beloved husband and best friend of Dale Marilyn Hillis (nee Maxwell) for 24 years. Cherished father of Victoria Hillis & Leanne Braga (Sergio) stepfather to Steven & Terry. Proud grandfather of Monica, Ben (Gabby), Hayley, Emily, Savannah & Hannah. Dear brother of John Hillis (Sharon), Theresa Wylie & Marylou Pyne (Phillip).

Predeceased by his parents James Sr and Mary Hillis, his brother-in-law Norm Wylie Sr. and his nephew Greg Pyne.

Jim grew up in Hespeler and was known for his local photography and writings. He retired from his work as a restaurant chef and moved out to Saint John, NB for 5 years returning home only a few weeks before his death .

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held on Saturday March 28, 1-4 at the Royal Canadian Legion in Hespeler. In lieu of flowers, donations made to Hospice Waterloo Region would be appreciated by the family.
