Jean Lucy (Grundy) Holmes
1934 - 2026
The family of Jean Lucy Holmes, her husband George and their children, Nancy (Holmes) Turley (Joel), Erik Holmes (Sandy) and Ken Holmes wish to inform you that Jean is now living in Heaven!
Jean was born in 1934 and raised in Brantford, Ontario by her loving parents, Lily (nee Catlow) and David Grundy, along with her twin sister, June Butler, older brother Dave Grundy (Marion) and twin brothers, Ron Grundy and Errol Grundy (Betty).
Jean developed a love of music which grew and blossomed throughout her life. Many a Saturdays she spent listening to “high-brow” music and reveling in the vocal classics.
Some of her treasured singing experiences were with the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir (8 years), the Kitchener-Waterloo Philharmonic Choir (15 years); soloing in Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, France, the Limerick Cathedral in Ireland and the New York Temple in Manhattan, New York and the Lincoln Centre in its first week after construction. She also served as soloist in the Ayr-Paris Community Band (11 years)
Jeannie’s solos tugged at the heart of every listener as she sang the message of “LOVE”. Her favorites included, “His Eye is On the Sparrow”, “How Great Thou Art”, “Down From his Glory” and a full array of classical songs.
Jeannie graduated in 1955 from Toronto Training College for Officers of the Salvation Army.
Joining in marriage with George Holmes in 1960, they raised their three children living in Toronto, New York, London Ontario, Baden-Baden, Germany; and Kitchener-Waterloo. They were a formidable music team who served for over 50 years as special guests at over 55 music camps in Canada, United States, Bermuda and Germany, teaching that music is far more than the notes.
Jean loved her grandchildren, Ethan Turley (Stefanie), Aidan Turley (Rachelyn), Jordan McKenzie (Graham) all from Bracebridge Ontario; Katie Lodermeier (Nick), Kenny Holmes (Laura), from Stillwater Minnesota; and Erik and Peter Holmes from Waterloo Ontario. Jean is pleased to add her great-grandchildren, Benjamin Turley, Samuel Turley, Elliot Lodermeier and Harrison Lodermeier.
Jeannie is now making music in the realms above. Jeannie spent her entire life singing for her Lord and Saviour. The music of her life will continue to speak Jesus over all who knew and loved her.
A Celebration of Life for Jeannie Holmes, will be held on Friday May 1, 2026 at 1:00 PM at The Salvation Army Church – 75 Tillsley Drive, Kitchener Ontario.
