John Colley Beaton
1951-2025
John Colley Beaton passed away at Wellington Hospice on August 25, 2025 at the age of 73. He was born in Oshawa General Hospital on September 6, 1951 to Jim and Carolyn Beaton. His family members include Carolyn Colley Beaton and (preceded in death) James Vincent Beaton. Stepchildren Meagan Turner of Michigan and Ian Turner of British Columbia, sisters Jane Beaton of Barrie, Jackie (Willie) Beaton of Guelph, and a brother Kevin (Laurie) Beaton of Bemus Point, NY.
Nieces and nephews: Terri Ann Gaynik, Kate Lynch, Brendan Beaton, Dallas Beaton, Cody Beaton, Brittney Beaton, Tyler Beaton, Leslie Wasik, Molly Beaton and Riley Beaton.
John’s schooling included Eastdale High School in Oshawa, BA (Honours Music) from The University of Western Ontario, B Ed University of Toronto and many workshops in Suzuki Violin pedagogy at Queen’s University, University of Guelph and Wilfred Laurier University. John was the founder/music director of the Durham Youth Orchestra in 1993. He has taught violin and viola in Oshawa for over 30 years! John also supply taught for the Durham District School Board.
John’s cremation has taken place. A private graveside service will take place in Wick Cemetery on Saturday October 4, 2025 at 11:00. A Celebration of John’s life will take place on Saturday October 4, 2025 at 2:30 at Westminster Church in Whitby, 1850 Rossland Rd. E. Whitby.
