John Kay Harrop

1943 - 2025

Passed away peacefully at WRHN Grand River Hospital in Kitchener, on Friday September 19th, 2025 at the age of 82 years.

John was born and raised in Windsor, Ontario in 1943. He lived in Essex County his entire life, working at but moved to Kitchener to be near his son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren for the last 6 months.

After a few years in the food service industry, he worked for 30+ years with Ford Motor Company until his retirement. He had many eclectic hobbies and interests: custom leatherworking, ventriloquism, collecting weird stuff and traveling in his motorhome throughout Ontario, the US Midwest and eastern seaboard. Renowned by all who knew him for his absolutely terrible jokes, primarily intended to elicit groans (laughs optional).

He is survived by his sons John Jeffery (Kirsten) and Christopher Sean and was beloved “Grampy” to Jacob, Sydney and Mitchell.

Dear brother of Richard (Doreen). Beloved uncle to Shelley (Peter), Scott (Karen), Colleen (Peter), Rick (Trina), Bonnie (Mike) and great uncle to their children.

Predeceased by his parents John Percival and Helen Leona (nee Horn) and his wife Mary Joan (nee Morrisson).

At John’s request, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral or visitation. His urn will be laid to rest with Joan at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Oldcastle, Ontario.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society as expressions of sympathy.
